Triumph Throwover Panniers

Worth it? Does anyone have the Triumph panniers or something similar? what work's best? I'm sort of sick of riding a couple hundred miles with a weekend's worth of gear in my backpack dragging me down. All recommendations welcome.

I have the Triumph Throwover Panniers and have used them to travel from Indiana to Mammoth Cave and to Mid Ohio. They worked quite well and both trips involved riding in some rain. The rain covers work pretty nicely, but I also pack all of my gear in waterproof bags with a change of clothes for each day in each bag.

If you plan to also carry a pillion, these are not a good option as the straps that attach it to the pillion seat would be very uncomfortable to sit on.

Great info! I'm thinking of getting a 675 and am glad to hear you can do some touring with it. How are those Pirellis on the road/rain?

The stock Super Corsa Pros are OK in the rain as long as you keep the bike fairly upright. You definately don't want to lean it over on the edges where there is no tread.

A much better street tire is the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT. They even work pretty well on the track, but have a tendancy to go away unpredictably after a few heat cycles.

Will may chime in here about his experience on 2CT's on the track - It's not good!

Good luck with your decision on getting the 675. It is not the most comfortable bike in the world to tour on and if that is your main purpose for a bike I would suggest a Sprint ST over the 675, but if touring is only one part of your equation, and a minor part at that, I'd say the 675 will be fine.

It definately is not a commuting or touring bike. It is meant to be ridden aggressively and in the twisty bits...

like triple I have the T throws and pack my stuff in waterproof bags. I've had a pillion ride 12 hours on the straps, but I put a spongey thing over them. numb bum but hey? they can hold a lot when they are fully extended.

Hey, where did the bike go? Oh. Over there...

Result:

Not too bad considering how far it slid and the pre-oopsie cornering speed, but I don't think I will be using Michelins on the track again. When they check out, they really check out.

Ouch! I think for the amount of riding and where I ride, the Corsas' sound great. Great forum, now I have to get the bike and join up for real! Thanks for the pointers.

Yep, a radical lowering of the angle. Not to mention easy adjustment at any time.

Found myself a free solution to the throwover panniers. My buddy wrecked his monster 620 last summer and bought a new one. He had his bags tucked away in the garage, said they wouldnt fit his new bike. They fit up pretty generically strapped it down under the pillion seat and tied them to the passenger footpeg brackets and away i went. Didn't rub at all and worked fine for the 450 miles i put on this weekend.

On the way home from Boston to Vermont it was snowing on sunday. That was less fun.
