675, Speed Triple and Daytona 955i Sighting on US 58 in Virginia on 09-02-07

I was in Shady Valley, Tennessee this weekend with my brother delivering my wife's 1923 Starr Minimum Grand Piano to a restoration shop and we decided to take our bikes along and play in the mountains in the area while we were down there.

We rode all day on Sunday on some phenominal roads - every bit as good as The Dragon, but with virtually no traffic and no police officers harrassing sport bikers...

While stopped along US 58 in Virginia near Grayson Highlands State Park I saw two black Speed Triples, a Red 675 and a Red 955i ride by. Any one from this board in that group?

Here's a photo taken at the spot where you passed us...

How does Denny like his GPS? You have one too don't you?

Can you read them while you are riding?

The GPS works great - It led us through some pretty good routes through the mountains and we were able to put it in the car mount while pulling the trailer. It led us right to the place where I had to drop off the Antique Baby Grand for restoration in Bristol, VA.

I haven't invested in one yet, but before next track season I plan to get one. It's pretty cool to be able to be in a strange place and find exactly what you are looking for the first try.

Too bad you couldn't come over to Shady Valley and ride with us that weekend! It was a blast!

I assure you, if it would have been possible, I would have been there.

I have picked up Asheville, NC as part of my territory at work. I drove out there yesterday. The roads to Asheville are beautiful. I'm going to have to ride the bike to my appointments whenever I can.

There is definately a bit of a learning curve when using the GPS.
Garmin mapsource is not the friendliest app to learn. The Zumo sometimes will recalculate the route when it is transferred from the computer and it will be different than what it was on the computer. It takes some time to learn how to compose the routes so that those changes are minimized.

The Zumo talks to you so reading is not needed very often. But it is readable when necessary. I can see it much better than I can see a map in my Tank bag, so now i can be more protective of that paint on my Tank. no more Tank bag for me!!

It has tried to route me down a one way street on two occasions, of course those do change and the most up to date map data is at least 6 months old.

On the computer (Mapsource) kept wanting to route me down the Apalacian Trail when I was doing some pre planning for that weekend. Also there is not very good knowledge of where the roads are unpaved. I am keeping a list of things to send to Garmin support.

On the other hand, I just need to get one of those KTM Adventure 690 or 640, then I would be able to go anywhere it wants me to go...

Looks like I will be heading to the Vintage days at Barber, the Boss said it's OK with her. But I will be bikeless, hopefully that won't be a big deal.

I may end up driving to Barber for Vintage Days too. I'm supposed to be picking up an engine for one of my two strokes. I'll need the van for that.

Great photo, Triple! I've always felt graphite would be the color if I got a Daytona too; in fact, back when the D675 was first introduced, Triumph had some nice large photos of it in their gallery, and I saved a view of a graphite one, taken in the studio but at approximately the same angle. It's still the wallpaper image on my computer to this very day.

Hinckley and/or denny - When is Vintage Days this year? I haven't been keeping up with these things well enough, but I hope there's a chance it might be when I am planning to be Down South myself.

Thanks, Denny. That turns out to be a few days after I'm theoretically supposed to return to Kansas. But the way my trip plans usually work, there's just as good a chance that I'll only then be getting down South, too, so I still hold out hope of maybe being there at the right time.

Haha! Triplethreat, all of us we're from here on the boards! I heard about you seeing us on another site from MIS3 who owns a speed triple and 675. That was actually me on his black speedy. MIS3 travelled down from Michigan to pick up the 675 and come do some riding. The other black speedy was DirtMcgirt from Florida, and the red 955 Daytona was Dano from California! I haven't finished my album yet, but you can check out my member album with some pics from this great gathering. There was another speedy owner here from Maryland on Saturday(Trippeee), and a Sprint rider Saturday also(bobw3592). It was a gathering I had been planning for a while. I've tried to post the story on the S3 forum and BHO, and it keeps getting pulled because of the pics.

Anyways, sucks that we missed you. I've always enjoyed your posts and it would have been great meeting you. I'll post a link to my album a little later, once I get some more pics loaded.
