675 tire choice

Hi guys, any opinions on the michelin pilot power2CT's for the 675.
i'm thinking of going that way instead of my diablo supre corsa pros which take a light year to get warm.
you can email me if you like

I run the regular Pilot Powers on both my Speed Four and SV... I've never had an issue with the tires on the street or the track... and they last a lot longer than the Supercorsas...

The previous owner of the Triumph runs Supercorsas on his sv1k and his D675 and he complains that they're torn up pretty quickly...

As far as the dual compound PPs go... I've heard good things but no personal experience. I would save the extra money though, given how well the regular PPs have done for me.

I put on a set of 2CT's at the lunch break on a track day at Putnam Park and then ran the afternoon sessions on them. They heated up right away and were very confidence inspiring. Then, I took the bike to Barber Motorsports Park for a two day event and rode for two days. The tires performed well throughout the weekend and the wear was consistent with no tearing evident. They are very sticky very quick. Riding at a really quick track pace I think they will wear a little faster then the SuperCorsa Pros or the Diablo IIIs.

Then, I found out that my front tire was among those being recalled by Michelin and I had them replaced at my next track day with a set of SuperCorsa Pros while I wait for my dealer to get the recall issue taken care of. I'll probably put the 2CT's back on the bike after my SuperCorsa Pros wear out, but I doubt that I'll buy another set based on my track focus rather than street focus.

I think the SuperCorsa Pros are better for the track, but if you primarily ride on the street and do the occasional track day the 2CT's are a great tire.

My next set of tires will probably be Diablo IIIs...

I like 2ct's for a track tire, and a race tire. they may not provide as much grip as a power race but I think they last longer. I like how fast they heat up, usualy under one lap. and they slide gradualy. im actualy thinking of geting 2ct's instead of power race for my track/ race bike becauseI'll be doing 2 trackdays, two morning practice sessions, and 2-5 races and I think one set will hold up to that. After riding the 2ct's the regular pilot powers just dont do it for me, and they were my favorite.

I ride both on the track and on the street. So far, plain old Pilot Powers have done just fine. I run in the faster half of the intermediate group, so I use the whole tire and drag knees a lot of the time. Pilot Powers haven't given me so much as a squirm except a couple times when they were cold and the track was a bit damp. I got a bit of a front end push, but nothing dramatic. For my purposes, I don't have much urge to switch over to 2CTs, especially since a friend used them for a while and wore the sides extremely quickly. The are fine tires, but they are overkill for most of us.

I have just fitted pilot road 2s to my 955 daytona and they are fantastic, i am really happy with the grip and they warm up very fast on the road, i cannot believe how much more stable and alert they have made the bike over the bridgstones, havent tried the powers but the dual compmound is the way to go imo

Pilot Powers

HI guys,
hope you don't mind a visit every now and then from a Sprint man.

When I can afford it (could be never) I'd like a 675 as a second / track bike.

I have had 6 sets of Pilot Powers on my Sprint, my previous ride of about 4 years was a GSX R600 so although I don't have a 675 I am very familiar with sports bikes and have trialled numerous tyres for my bike shop when a new tyre comes out. (Although the guy I did this for has now left )

The single compound PP is a very good sports tyre with a very fast turn in rate and they do heat up very quickly and last longer than most good sports tyres ie. I get 4,500kms out of a rear PP on the road and only 3000kms out of a rear Qualifier.

On the road or track Pilot Powers do have a flaw in that the front tends to follow seal joins or grooves in the road and also due to the high amount of feedback through the bars from the front it can feel a little twitchy.

This is disconcerting for a few riders but certainly doesn't bother me at all.

I think the Pilot Powers area great all round sports tyre: fast turn in excellent grip also in the wet and good tyre life.

The dual comp tyres that were recalled were only those made in France all the ones made in Spain were fine.

I am currently running the BT 002 race mediums on my Sprint and am on my 3rd set. I get 3000kms from a set on the road which is excellent for such a great handling tyre.

The BT 002 and Michelin Pilot Race medium are both superior in every way to the Pilot Power except tyre life.

The BT 002 handles brillantly, fast turn in, good transition, extremely stable and excellent dry grip, wet grip is mediocre but not terrible, they heat up fast.
If you need to you can still apply both brakes quite deep into a corner with out too much bike "stand up" something that most tyres don't help you with at all. (not something I usually do but it's nice to know)

Plenty of tyre pics in both my albums, there are a few brands there.

IMHO either a BT 002 or Michelin Pilot race perform about 10 - 20% better than the normal sports tyres.

The Pirelli Super Corsa's are great tyres but known not to last long.

The Dunlop Qualifiers are in the same boat, great tyres but last as long as a BT 002 or Pilot Race.

my 2 cents worth.

I have a Qualifier on the rear wheel of my street wheels. It will be interesting to see how it holds up. The front is a Diablo Corsa (not Super Corsa). The mismatch is why I don't use the set on the street. Maybe next summer, a set of Qualifiers will go on the track wheels to see what they are like. It depends somewhat on what group I am in next season.
