Hi Guys,

I already have a sprint st that i love. I like the sporty look and riding position but wouldn't mind something a bit more extreme.... i liked the dropped bars look.
What I was wondering however was how you guys (particularly the taller folks) find the the 675 outside of the track. I plan to do some track days this year but the majority of the time will be sunday blasts down the twisties and commuting 5 miles to and from work each day.
I'm 6'2 and 190 pounds. I know a 675 will not be as comfortable as a sprint st. That is cool... i prefer the sportier look ... but what i want to know how you guys find it to and from work and , as a bike (ignoring top speed ... cause i know the gsxr has this covered) for the real world as well (particularly in comparison to your experiences if any with a gsxr 750).
This will be the first super sport i will own so I want a bike that i can use every day , have fun on the track, that looks sporty and will fit my tall frame. I'm relucatant to look at litre sized bikes because i simply would not have the supersport experience yet to handle their power (i have done rospa certifications and a few years driving experience but I want to keep my run of thus far (touch wood) 5 years without any incident).

thanks a lot

i_wolf

p.S. the red 675 is particularly sexy. It looks to combine the 1098 with the 996 best bits! In the flesh how far off ducati red is it ???

The red 675 is a bit darker, not as bright as the Duc red. At 5'8" it feels small to me, but Will here is over 6 foot and digs his, on one of our local guys is about 5'10" and uses his as a daily rider (of course, he's only in his 20s, not old like some of us).

Boy do I have you fooled! I am only about 5-10. 5-11 if they use a saggy tape. I have long arms and legs, so I have to fold up a bit on the bike, like I would if I were a little taller, though. It isn't a problem, and I am almost 47, with one scraped out knee, one shoulder that would probably benefit from a good cutting, and a history of beating up my back and neck.

Now why'd I think you were tall?

I have a friend who's 6'7". Odd thing is, his legs aren't much longer than mine; it's all in the torso. He served in the air force for a while - until he found he could not fit in the cockpit of a plane. His head hit the canopy. So he joined the army.

Gotta say I lust after a 675, but insurance is nuts and I'm rather happy with the TT600's handling for the time being. The TT's more comfy, too.

Daytona 675's riding position is not as bad as a Ducati superbike. I am 6'0" and pretty comfortable so far for under 2 hours trips. I guess touring is not a problem for you since you have a Sprint for touring.

With Daytona, you'll learn to move your weight to the waist and peg your legs to the tank (sitting more forward).

GSX-R750 will be my choice for a sportbike supposed Daytona 675 didn't exist.

I think D675 will still look ageless in couple of years while GSXR doesn't. GSXR has a slipper clutch, though. It is also more powerful.

If you are broad shouldered like me (suit size 48), you'll find that the mirrors and windscreen are useless, too. But daytona is a very fun bike, you'll be like a 5 years getting his first bicycle .

[The GSXR] is also more powerful.
I agree with everything said--comfort, styling, etc.--except that. For street & on-road twisties use, the 675 has the edge over the 750 in power.

Numbers from www.sportrider.com:

Daytona 675 ('06)
60-80: 3.36
80-100: 3.43

GSX-R 750 ('06)
60-80: 3.59
80-100: 4.26

The GSX-R has more high-end, but that doesn't really kick in 'til about 120mph. Other than the back straight on a respectable track, that shouldn't matter.
