I've had my deposit on a graphite 675.
I've got a Rocket III, and a Moto Guzzi Bassa (California), which is a fairly sporty cruiser.
As I waited for delivery, I started having second thoughts about the 675. I ain't a kid anymore. I'm 6'1" and 210 lb.
I want a good bike for twisty mountain riding, and maybe an occasional track day, but I worried that the D675 would be TOO sporty, and an S3 might be the better choice.
The 675 got here yesterday, and the dealer said he'd have it, and a handsome white S3 ready for a test spin.
I don't need to explain to any of you guys about the nervous indecision and second guessing I've been going through. And I was afraid that side-by-side test rides wouldn't help me reach a decision. But I was relieved to find I could make a clear and decisive choice.
As mentioned above by several of you, the bikes are far more different than I had imagined.
Since both bikes are brand new, I never got to wind them out, but I was able to get an overall feel for the power. The 675 revs so quickly that it feels competitive with the S3's grunt.
The 675 felt more firmly planted, and snaps from a left to right lean more solidly (to me...).
The extreme ergos would probably be bothersome to most older riders, but I'm used to hunching over the handlebars of road bicycles, so my neck and shoulders should do OK. Well, for a couple hours, but not all day.
The S3, on the other hand, was actually TOO upright for me. It just felt too similar to my cruisers. I mean, it's really a truly fine ride...but it sort of felt like it's too close to what I've already got.
If I didn't have the cruisers, the S3 would be the only logical choice. But, for my purposes, the Daytona feels like it will easily outperform the S3.
