Exclamation Gear Position Sensor Adjustment

I have looked everywhere (service manual, owners manual, the whole damn interverse) for some guide to adjusting the gear position sensor... my gear indicator shows the wrong gear at times (until i fiddle with the shifter).

Is there any adjustment on the sensor?

Thanks,
Evan

They are a little iffy, its a warranty repair if you still have one.

Afraid not. My bike is a 2006. It actually got messed up when i took it in for the 12k service (it worked fine before the 12k service), but i kinda sat on it to the point where i feel bad bringing it back to them. Crap, the service may have been almost a year ago?

Why not just change the sensor? That is all they are going to do. Getting the cover off isn't a dark art. The part probably costs a fraction of what they are going to hit you for at the dealer.

Well, that's why I'm asking. I don't know why or how the sensor would have gone bad by a visit to the dealership to do a 12k... I was curious if there is any adjustment for it and if so, what the steps are.

I wouldn't think so. Its pretty much just a contact switch for the little I looked at it.

....I don't have the manual for the bike yet. I haven't gotten into anything that would require it.

I have the service manual and the only mention i can find of it is in the wiring diagrams portion.

Hmm

You can troubleshoot the sensor itself...do you have basic electrical tools? Like a multimeter?

Yea, I do, but the device works. It's just out of adjustment. It just doesnt show the correct gear sometimes (it may be either a gear high or a gear low) but if i joggle the shifter it will right itself.

Mine waviers a bit in first and sometimes reads second in neutral. Since its the first bike I've owned in 22 years with a gear indicator so I don't really look for it anyway.

It may be a lever position thing. Like I said, I haven't delved terribly deep into it.
