What do I need to know about purchasing used Daytona forks?

I've been looking for Daytona forks at the typical locations (CL, ebay, 675.net) but haven't found any yet. These suckers are hard to find. Any suggestions where to look would be much appreciated.

In the event I find some, I was wondering what I need to know to do this right.

Are there better years to buy?

What are some recommendations to look for so that I'm not buying forks that might have hidden problems?

I appreciate the advice from folks that have already been down this road.

Thanks,

-CW

Haven't been down this road, but you need to make sure that the forks are straight. Without the ability to have them inspected prior to purchase, you are taking a gamble, especially if they are coming off a crashed bike.

You need to be able to have the forks disassembled and inspected with a dial indicator for runout, being out of round, etc.

I'd be very leery of purchasing forks from someone I didn't know if I couldn't have them inspected first.

The differences in forks came in 2009, when High and Low Speed Compression damping was introduced. The 2006-2008 forks are the same.

Good luck in your search...

thanks for the advice. the bike I was looking at pulling them off of got t-boned. the front end in the pictures looks fine, but I get your point. the damage might not be evident to the naked eye.

do you have any idea of what cost I should expect at having them inspected?

Also, any advice on where to buy used forks without having to risk a private party?

thanks,

-C
