Low Exit Stubby Exhausts

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience of changing from a high-level underseat exhaust to a stubby low-exit one like ZARD?

Does it have a bad effect of low, mid or top end performance?

I would expect the short link pipe would be best tuned for top end so I'm worried it may be bad for low and mid power.

Cheers

How much low end power do you need or want? It's not like a Zard exhaust will make the bike unrideable. Unless you are pulling stumps, it shouldn't matter too much if you like the way the exhaust looks and sounds.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

Hi Will

another GP style low short stubbie can is the Trident.

Dolson has one on his 955 Sprint and it looks fantastic and actually gives the 955 a power boost, he dynoed several times before to get a base line and also afterwards.

Tried one and gained horsepower up top but lost out through the midrange. I have a Micron ultralite underseat on at the moment (not for long, bike is being sold) and it is the same story with that, the bike pulls like a train at higher revs but is much harder to wheely in 2nd gear, than it is with the standard can on.

Comparing a high flowing underseat system to a low mount GP style, you will lose a couple of ft-lb through out the entire powerband with the GP shortie. The D675 engine really likes more collector length than most GP pipes provide.

But the low slung weight difference in a low mount GP system can make the bike a bit more "flickable" in the twisties.

HordPower makes one and if you check there website they have Dyno graphs. You will need a race filter and Tuneboy to run it properly on the bike. If you have a 2006 - 2008 JD @ HordPower has the proper mapping done and figured out. If you have a 2009 - 2010 you will need to click and paste the map from the 2008 and then get it dyno tuned. It makes about a little less horsepower up top then a full Leo or Arrow but 5 more horsepower in the midrange! It is also louder then a Leo or Arrow full system. So if you want power and don't mind it loud that is the one I would recommend. Also the cost is $795.00 because they use your header to make the system. If you have a earlier bike check the classifieds or E-bay and buy a second used header to send in. That way you can always put it back to stock if you want too. Below are links to a picture of the bike with the exhaust installed and one of Hordpowers race bike with exhaust on YouTube.

This isn't the exact muffler but the sound is pretty close.

Sorry mate I got to disagree with you on the issue of the 675 loosing power when you fit a Zard. I have a Zard on my 06 675 with a K&N race air filter + power commander 111, have had a custom map done on the bike the dyno readout showed that it had gained over 4bhp on the top to peak at 114.24 up from 110bhp at 12500rpm's also gained in the midrange and the bottom end. In the bottom end there was a gain of 5bhp and in the midrange it was 8bhp, The guy who done the map for me works on a lot of race bikes and has a very good reputation, he told me when he was doing my bike that he had just mapped a race 675 with a arrow full system that just made 118bhp. my bike is road only.
