Engine Light On: OH NO!!!

Hello Everyone.

I just joined this forum and am excited to participate!

My issue............
This morning I turned on my bike and my check engine light was on....Its a brand new 2009 675 with about 1300 miles. The first service has been done. Any thoughts? I'm sure it could pretty much be anything.

Could a low oil level cause the check engine light to be on? I've read from several places that 675s like to use oil and some more than others....

It's my first Triumph. Used to dealing with Ducatis.

Thanks so much!

P

The most likely culprit is the ExUp Valve being out of adjustment. It's an exhaust back pressure valve that is operated via cables and a servo motor and it is located just behind the Catalytic Converter in the exhaust under the engine. They have a nasty tendency of getting out of adjustment. I'd run it past your dealer and have it looked at.

Low oil, or excessive oil usage is rare. I have two Daytona 675's a street bike with over 12000 miles and a track bike with about 2000 and neither one uses oil.

Good luck getting it sorted...

Awesome. Thanks a million for your input and oil usage. I called the dealer and am going in on Saturday. I'll mention the ExUp as a possible problem.

I'm saving for the Arrow Race System. I wouldn't have that problem if I had that....

I'll post my findings.

Thanks Triple.

They leak oil, they only burn oil when idiots beat the crap out of em as soon as they pull off the dealer lot. Maybe its just mine that leaks (2 spots verified, possibly a third).

Theres also an oil pressure light, if its low enough, it'll come on.

Neither of mine leak oil either. Both were broken in by varying the rpms and placing a load under acceleration on the motors. I also haven't babied either of them after they were broken in, but I am very regular with maintenance and perform frequent oil changes, particularly on the track bike.

I ended up bringing the bike to the dealer yesterday and they plugged it into the computer. The engine error was because it sat for 1.5 weeks (I've been riding my other bikes) and had something to do with the battery. Initially they (the dealer) also agreed that it was the Ex valve but determined that it was an error with the battery. They reset it and no problems. Strange.

Anywho. Thanks again.

Glad it was something simple. Put that thing on a battery tender!
