Brit electrical issues - blast from the past
So in England, if you were to walk into any given house and flick the switch for the porch light, would the dishwasher turn on, or would the light just not work?
Okay, 1x says my taillight doesn't work, neither does the plate light, he's correct. The brake light does work, as do the signals.
I'm getting minimal voltage at the connectors to the tail and marker lights. I'm also getting a positive ground at a couple pins, like, check pin to Neg and get nothing, then check it to positive and get battery voltage (12.??).
So, suggestions would be great, wiring diagram be even better.
Seriously, Ford bought Jag AND Aston, while Jag lost style points and V12's, both companies now benefit from functional electrical systems. I'm thinkin, Mistubishi has a lot of experience in this area, and they don't currently produced motorcycles . . .

Okay lets add shall we?
The tail light works as a running light with the parking lights on, so does the brake light. Though only the brake light works with the key in the "On" position. Marker light doesn't work either way.
I'm thinkin bypass, add a switch, call it a day < American engineering.
btw, half the wiring on this thing has labels with Japanese writing, so now I can't blame it on Lucas anymore.

The injection and probably a whole lot of the rest of the electrical system is Japanese. I would guess you have a fault in the off/on switch itself, since I can't think of any other part in common to all the pieces of behavior you describe.

If it is still under the two year warranty, take it in to the dealer and let them fix it.

Warranty is out, I checked with the oil leak.
New issue, not major, but annoying, and seemingly unrelated: On the way to work this morning, I glance at the clock shortly before the exit and it reads 5:57. I pull into the parking lot roughly 1 mile from the exit, the clock now reads 1:00.
Now, I know it didn't take me 7 hours and 3 minutes to get there because the boss wasn't standing at the door when I walked in (if your late, he'll wait by the door when you pull in the lot).
On top of that, the fuel mileage, trip odometers, speed recall, etc. were all reset.
Normally when a clock resets, it goes to 12:00, not 1:00, little bit confused here.
btw, for anyone who didn't get it, the Brit electrical thing was a joke aimed at the whole Lucas electronic thing, turn the radio on and wipers start going, stuff like that.

I'm well acquainted with the Prince of Darkness.
Your problem sounds like a short of some kind in the ignition switch or less likely, a problem in the ECU. It could also be an oddball grounding problem somewhere, either a faulty ground or a bit of worn insulation which is grounding out when it shouldn't. My guess is you will continue to see stranger and stranger electrical problems over time until you find the issue. Maybe the Prince has invaded your bike.

Well, I'm currently running an L.E.D. Maglite strapped to my passenger seat as a tail lamp. Probably blinding people, but whatever, it'll do until I figure it out.
Is this why Gixxers are so popular? They have much more obvious issues like the head stock welds snapping at high speed.
Related rant:
Well, I was riding to work Saturday morning, two silver Crown Vics side-by-side on the shoulder, a few miles later one of them blew past me (I was only doin like 70), got in front of me, the other one got behind me, then there were lights all over the place.
THEY BOXED ME IN FOR HAVING A FREAKIN TAIL LIGHT OUT ***!!!!!!!! Its like, Hey congrats you caught the freakin Boston strangler!
No ticket, written warning, they were cool about it after the stop.
Here my issues:
1. If I was gonna run, all I'd have to do is roll into it when I first saw them.
2. I saw them coming up behind me, again, twist n go would have left them in my dust.
3. I saw the first one going by me, even at that point if I'd dropped into 2nd and pinned it he would've been a spec in my mirror in about 1/8 mile.
4. They said they couldn't see me with the tail light out. After I passed them I went up a hill, around a tight/long turn, down a hill, and split off onto another highway. If they couldn't see me up close, how would they see me a mile back on the other side of a hill switching highways???
* Note, I took my intended route, going to the other highway is part of that it wasn't an attempt at evading them which I could've easily done had I chosen to and therefore should be greatly rewarded for actually stopping
