Most likely an ExBv Exhaust Valve adjustment issue (Pretty Common). It's in the exhaust pipe just past the Catalytic Converter. Dealer should be able to tell when they service the bike.

yea, my 2008 D675 did the same thing and it was brand new, I thought I had purchased a lemon or something. I took to dealership 3 times after that for the same issue, finally had the exhaust valve changed out, warranty work!!! Keeping fingers crossed no issues in about 2500 miles. Enjoy your bike!!!

Smile Mellow yellow light

I had the same thing going on a 2008 under warranty. The lamp is actually called MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) and when the sensor in the exhaust butterfly valve register something and turns the light on, it normally turns off the MIL after 3 no-fault warm-up cycles. The error code (in this case P1080) is stored in the ECM memory and after 40 no-fault warm-up cycles it's erased from the ECM.
With a TuneBoy you can diagnose and erase error codes.

Also have a new 675se. My engine management light came on the other day, took it to the dealers and they stated that the noise emission valve in the exhaust is playing up. They reset it and asked that I gave them feedback as to what happened from thereon in. The bike was fine while out all day. Once it was cool at the end of the day I turned it on, fine, started it, fine, blipped the throttle and the light came on! New bits ordered and booked in for them to be fitted. The latest models are supposed to have the modified bits that don't do this, can't say I'm that impressed. They might be doing it for free but it's the hassle involved. Oh, had a dreadful job starting it the other day when the ECU sounded like it had tied itself in knots which I believe is related to the exhaust valve. Tried it today and it started first time without complaint.

Interesting discussion. Mine's only around 5-6 weeks old so it's currently in the dealers having new exhaust parts fitted. I was told by the dealer when they diagnosed the valve as playing up that it's only a noise emission part in any case, doesn't affect power at all. It certainly hasn't made any difference to the power of mine but it sounds marvellous when the valve sticks open at the low revs end. I did ask whether they could just set it full open all the time, I'll find out whether they could when I collect it.
