For 'over the pond' Interest

Motor Cycle News in the UK has put the 675 against the Aprilia RSV4, Ducati 1098, Yamaha R1 on the road and also the Suzuki GSXR 750 on the track. The road test was a few weeks ago and they rated the 675 the best fun for the money on the road with more than enough power, superb handling etc. On track the 675 was around 2 seconds slower than all but the Suzuki but they still reckoned that for the money it still couldn't be beaten.

Dream wise some went for for the Aprilia but all stated that personally they'd buy the 675!! Basically it has all you need for road riding with occasional track use....... but then we know that!!

Whats the word on the road test? I mean the actual road part, not so much the track.

Just out of curiosity, why is it that the Brit mags always have the 675 running slower? Like 7 mph slower on the top, half a second up in the 1/4 and down 10 mph or worse.

As I recall there was nothing in it on the road where real world performance matters more than absolute speed/power etc. It was after that test that they said money no object some would have the RSV4 but a bike the WOULD buy (because they could afford it) was the 675.

As to the second part of your question, if I understand it correctly, I can only make guesses such as, they use more/less accurate testing kit? Bikes here are in a different state of tune/setup? No idea. While the absolute performance figures are interesting and a good talking point it's what the bikes are like to ride and own that is more important to us buyers, at least that's my view.

I think the feel is definitely important, but what it feels like doesn't reflect what your doing all the time. I've ridden bikes that make me feel like I'm runnin better times, but I actually do get better times on my Daytona.

My friend's RSV feels stupid fast, but I run about 1.5 to 2 seconds slower on average (about 3 seconds off my best time) set with my 675.

Funny you should mention feeling slow. My fastest laps always feel slow.

Go soothingly on the grease mud, as there lurks the skid demon.

A note on the RSV4. A friend of mine (the one with the RSV) works at an Aprilia dealer, they won't be getting any until November last they heard, they only get 2 to start and they're supposedly the first ones to make it to CT. One for a demo bike, the other was sold a few months ago. They have, last I knew, 6 people on the list and thats after 3 people backed out.

Yeah I really don't get it, I had been doing better and better then all of a sudden felt like I was doing warm-ups again with my bike. With the RSV I thought for sure I had obliterated my best numbers.
