fuel mileage-ometer er wutever

So the fuel economy display, are these things normally anywhere near accurate?
I didn't reset it the first few tanks, but it seemed to be close (got about 40, read about 42). Last time I filled it up, first time the low fuel light came on (at around 140 miles) I topped it off a little more then. The average listed 52, I got roughly 40 again. Probably got another 30-40 miles before I'll have to fill it, so I'll see what it works out to this time.

I can't say how accurate the readings are but I've no reason to doubt the different readouts. I reset mine after each ride as I find it interesting (I know, sad!) to note how far I've gone, how long I've been riding etc. The MPG's always interesting as well and appears about right

Well, a friend of mine came up with his RSV, we went to the drive-in, back home, dropped off my fiance to get into some more "spirited" night riding, switched off bikes (RSV has a big squishy seat, bit of a change). Switched back, I filled up the tank, reset the mileage and forgot to check it.

Be aware the measurement is in imperial gallons, not the wimpy US gallon. So, when you consider an imperial pint is 20 ounces instead of the paltry 16 ounces in a US pint, you will see the readout is accurate as long as you realize an imperial gallon will go a lot farther than a US gallon and do the math. It's 25% more or 20% less, however you choose to figure it.

For what it's worth, the best readout I have ever got over a tank of fuel is about 48. The worst was 16. You can imagine what kind of riding resulted in each of them.

Well, so far the best average (readout) was 52-ish, the lowest was about 40. On a steady cruise to work the instant reads in the upper 50's. Seems to hang in the low 40's when I'm keeping myself entertained, the back roads around here are great, but you gotta watch out where you get on it unless you want to end up airborne < yeah, guess how I learned that...
