It's called a full exhaust system. The cat lives in the header, just ahead of the EXUP valve, if memory serves me right.

Straight pipe, cut, weld, then complain about CEL's.

There are several options for you.

Full Exhaust
Cut the CAT open and gut it and then weld it back together
Cut out the CAT (and possibly the ExUp Valve as well) and weld in some straight pipe.

If you don't have a TuneBoy and you remove the ExUp, you will get a MIL Light as already mentioned above. You would either need the arrow tune loaded or you would need to diable the ExUp using TuneBoy or you would need a Race ECM and Race Harness installed.

If you have a street bike and are not having problems, why would you want to remove it? It would no longer be emissions compliant and you would reduce the resale value by messing with it.

I have removed the CAT and Exup Valve on 4 675's, all with no problem at all. Getting a Tune into the bike that disregards the lack of Exup valve and that tunes for less backflow is ideal. I have done 3 of the bikes with aftermarket maps on a Tuneboy, but one of my own race bikes I put the Arrow tune in it with a modified stock header (no CAT, no Exup) and a Jardine RT-One CF Slipon. The bike ran fine and made good power.

So it IS possible to get the Arrow tune installed by your dealer (if they are willing) with a modified header and it be okay, but I have alternate maps available if you can get ahold of a Tuneboy setup.

At the risk of sounding dumb, does the full exhaust remove both CAT and EXUP?

At the risk of sounding dumb (sorry, had to borrow that line), whats the EXUP thing do?

If I search for it, it just comes up with the acronym. I'm guessing Yamaha didn't copyright that name.

The ExUp valve is designed to increase back pressure in the exhaust system at low rpms, which is supposed to improve torque. In addition, it quiets the exhaust a bit at lower rpms.

So, does removing the EXUP valve reduce torque output while increasing top end surge?
