Can a 190 rear tire be put on my 2002 955i. I have the stock 180 on it now. Wanted to see if the 190 could be put on my 17 inch rim. Want the fatter tire.

You can get it on there, but it won't necessarily be wider. The rim is only so wide and you will be pinching the 190 onto a rim designed for a 180. I did the same thing the last time I put tires on my Super III. In comparison to the 180 on my 1200, it actually looks narrower due to the way the tire had to be contorted to fit onto the rim.

Of course you know that you will be sacrificing handling as well.

All that to say, yes, it will fit. :-D

I road my friends 2001 955. That has a 190. It felt more stable on the open road. I'll admit you can't toss it around as easy on the twisties. Kind of going for the thicker look from behind. If your saying it really doesn't look wider, I'll stick with the 180.

A 190 tire 'Should' be mounted to a 6" rim. If you mount it to a 5.5" rim it changes the contour of the tire and it effects the handling characteristics. It's done all the time but your bike will handle better with the tire mounted to the correct rim width. Triumph went to a 5.5" rim and the 180 tire on most of it's sport bikes for a reason, better handling. I have the Avon Azaro 45/46 (Sport Touring) combination on my bike and it may be just what you are looking for. Most people (myself included) mistake the 180 Azaro for a 190. They run wide. I also loved the way they transformed the handling of my bike. Much better turn in and steering response. They also make a 'Sport' version in the Azaro 49/50. I use my bike for getting to work so I opted for the model that will give me more life. I now have 4k on them and they show no real signs of wear yet! They handle great, (IMHO) they give great mileage and they look FAT, might be just what you need.

Here's a link to a package deal on them. They had the 49/50 package when I was looking. (Just my luck)

I think the '02 Daytona and S3's came with a 190 tire on a 6" rim. I could be wrong. But if a 180 on a 5.5 inch rim came with the bike, you'd be better off sticking with the 180. What I want is a street version of the 190/55 tire.
