I got the bright idea to have my header pipes on the Daytona 1200 Jet Hot coated (flat black) before they deteriorate any further. The Haynes manual says to drain the oil and move the oil cooler out of the way. Only problem is I just changed the oil a few hundred miles ago. So I hate to do it (BTW- I use BMW 15w-50 oil).

Anyone know if you can remove the headers without draining the oil? Will I have enough room to work by just loosening the oil cooler support bracket? Thanks. :???:

I know it can be done on the 900. I losened the oil cooler bracket as you stated and the header came right off, no problem.
