Soon to be owner of a 955!

I am thinking of buying a 01/02 Daytona 955i Centennial. I was told it was a split year??? It has 20xxx miles on it. Looks ok, never been dropped, just shows wear. Asking price is $4000, I am by no means going to offer him the 4 grand for a 20xxx + mile bike, but what do you think is a good offer. Is this a good bike? Thanks

4k is not too bad. Offer $3800.

Hop on it. Offer $3500 or so, and end up at $3800. Go to $4k if you have to. You'll love this bike.

I've never heard of a split year Centennial Daytona. It's an '02. As for the $4000, that sounds fair. Before you buy, read every thread on the most recent pages of this forum, then you'll be able to make an edjumucated decision. But as far as I'm concerned, buy the bike, I love mine, no regrets.

2002 "Split Year"

The 2002 model year was split in that 2002 CE's had a single-sided swingarm. All other 2002's had a double-sided swingarm. Perhaps this is what you meant by split year.

I recently created a thread entitled "Some 955i Reviews & Tests" which is currently on page 2. You may find other worthwhile information there before you buy.

The second generation Daytonas are my favs.

Check that all recalls and major preventative maintenance have been performed, if not adjust your offer accordingly qs service can be pricey.

I was hunting for an 03 Daytona or CE. But, I ended up getting the 98 T595 because it was super clean, low mileage and a good deal. Love it!

Hey Narc, 2 questions for ya.
What color is it? Ashton Green is the color of the official CE's, which also had a small sticker/badge in front of the fuel filler cap, and were SSSA's. Just because its an 02 model doesn't necessarily make it CE.
Also I recently traded my baby in on a R3T, so what part of the country or dealer are we talking about here?

Do it, Do it, Do it, and Do it again!!! I've got an '02 CE and love it!!! I picked mine up off the scratch and dent lot with 13k on the clock. Some minor issues like ECU updates and such, but have had no problems with this bike. Recommend expecting some issues from a used vehicle, but get a full service done so you're starting with a clean slate and you should be good.

ASTON green... Not ASHTON...

JK

If the bike is a dark "british racing green" color and has a single sided swingarm, it's a 2002 "Centenary Edition".
