02-05 955i fairings on a 595?

Well, I had a Porsche Cayman cut me off in rushhour last night, laid her down and scraped the left side along with shattering the left headlight and cracking the nose fairing.

I'm ok other than a headache, rashed hands (gloves were in pants pocket), and someone stole the key to my bike when they towed it.

I'm looking at replacing the headlight, but its been easier to find 955i headlights than 595 units, along with the fact I need a new left fairing, and bellypan.

I'm thinking about changing everything over from a newer style 955i.

Has anyone done this before?

Other than the gauge cluster/fairing stay, what's different?

I've got over a decade building racecars/metal fabrication, machining experience. so fabbing up a few brackets is no biggie. I'm just looking for a heads up before I start ordering parts.

Side note, does anyone know if I can get a key from the dealer if I give them the VIN or the number off the lock?

I'd really hate to change all the locks because someone stole my key.

Thanks,

Po-Lock

Sorry to hear of your mishap. Sounds like the guy took off too. At least you are alive and mostly well. Now lets see if all of us here can get you on the road again soon.

I'm no expert on the 955i - as you can see I have a D1200, but I have read some on the other models, follow the guys here etc,. and maybe I can at least give you some interesting possibilities.

I just posted a thread myself a few days ago entitled, "Some 955i reviews & tests". You might want to check it out for some fun reading. More importantly, one of the reviews:

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/upload...20955i%203.pdf

says in the beginning that 2004 was a year in which the fairing was changed. So I am under the impression that 2004 to 2006 is a different fairing than the earlier years. Something to keep in mind as maybe one year fits your 595, and another won't.

Secondly, check out the thread entitled "Re: "04 Fairings". It is at the bottom of page one tonight. TechmanBD gives the web addresses for a couple of places for aftermarket fairings. I would guess that they can also tell you if a 955i fairing will fit a 595.

Finally, another motorcycle site I was on had a discussion on HID lights. From that I found these web sites for upgrading your lights. Perhaps, you may want to upgrade at the same time you repair/replace things.

Hope this helps some.

Check out this ebay page. The same guy has some t595 fairing parts and hugger for sale. I'm guessing he may be breaking up a bike. If so, even if you are not interested in these parts, maybe he has a headlight he will sell. Just e-mail him and find out.

It would be cheaper to make it into a Speed Triple but I'm certainly not advocating that. I'd much rather see another 955i on the road than another Daytona/S3 convertion...

Sorry to hear about the damage, glad you weren't hurt.

Some gremlins stole my key when I relocated from Las Vegas to Houston, so I went to a reputable lock-smith and in about 1.5hrs he was able to locate and cut a new key for me with nothing more to look at than the bike. Cost about $90 for all the time, but it can be done. Blank for my '02 955i CE was code TMC1 X270. Not sure if yours will be the same, but might be a place to start. Good Luck!

Yeah, I thought of going the S3 route, but I like the fairing for long cruises and the occasional spirited ride when I'm out in the sticks.

I stopped by the dealer with the top triple and my registration today, they said they could have a new key cut from the VIN, though it would take 3 weeks as it ships from the UK.

I could buy a new ignition switch and key for $208.00, though it wouldn't be keyed the same.

Or I could buy a new lock set (ign, fuel, seat) for $450.00

I'm going to start calling local locksmiths tomorrow.
