Question Daytona Won't Start, I need Help!!!

So my 99 Tona 955 decided to quit turning on this past Friday. I've had numerous problems with this bike I purchased a few months ago. My bike is eating up oil. I had to pour a quart in. The next day my bike decided not to start, so I had to do a push start to get to school. Today, Sunday, my bike wouldn't start with a push start. I have no idea where to begin in repairs, and I hate going to the local triumph dealer where they rip me off because I'm young. Any suggestions?

if your burning that much oil and there is no leak you piston rings are shot, which will explain the bike not starting. Is the bike smoking any? You might have low compression. Get a compression tester. if its not that then it could an electrical gremlin. i would clean and check all connections, especially at the battery these things tend to do some crazy stuff when they dont get enough juice. Also will it turn over when you try to start it?

The Bike was smoking a week ago. Someone had knocked it over in front of my apartment. I assumed it was oil that had leaked out burning. But it was definitely smoking.

tip over?

change your plugs(or clean), air filter(if you can) and turn it over a couple of times with the plugs out and a rag over the plug holes (just see what's coming out). you should also check your charging volts, etc.

Gas Hose

Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to get my gas tank off to check out the air filter, but the bottom hose doesn't lock when I pull it out. So gas is leaking out the tank. Is there a simple solution for this? Should I just siphon out the tank? I'm a young rider and this is my first time taking apart a triumph.

isn't the 99 also affected by the flooded-with-oil-when-laid-over syndrome?? sounds like the air and intakes are full of oil and now your plugs are fouled. if you find oil in the airbox, pull the plugs, clean or replace them (preferred). while they're out, do as SC said.

if this is the case you're lucky it didn't lock up when you first cranked it.

Yes, if you lay a Daytona on her side you will fill one of the cylinders with oil. (Ask me how I know this!) The battery will not turn the engine over because the cylinder will be hydrolocked due to the oil. You will need to pull the plugs and turn the engine over. When you do start the engine it will smoke for a while till the oil is gone.
