Speedo on 0!!
My 04 Daytona sometimes doesn't register a speed from startup to shut down, I have to start is and shut it off numerous times to get the speedo to register speed and mileage, it has a 6 month old battery that I keep on a trickle charger so I do not believe insufficient power is the problem I am just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? Also where can I purchase a TB for my bike, I bought it used and it didn't come with one, also would like to know where to purchase a "gel pak" seat that I've seen in so any threads. Thanks for any help that's out there.....I live in Daytona Beach if anyone is coming down for the October Bike week and would like to ride!!

Your local triumph dealer will have to update your ECU/ECM. I always thought it was the battery too, but after 2 weeks with a new one, the speedo started doing it again, but not as often. As for the gel seat, I was lucky mine came with one, but you may have to go to your dealer for that too, unless you find one on ebay, or maybe bikebandit.com.
And if you mean 'TuneBoy' when you say 'TB', don't bother looking on ebay, because if I find one on there first, I'm buying it, lol. Only other place I can think of is tuneboy.com.au

i have a 02 daytona and have the exsact same problem. brand new battery and have to start and shut off multiple times sometimes to get speedo to register. i have found that if i have the kickstand up and switch on before i turn the key it doesnt do it near as much. im glad to hear this might can be remedied with a quick trip to the dealer. did they charge you anything for updating the ecu?

Actually, I haven't made it to the dealer yet, being 7 hours away. But I've read that when you first turn the key on, the computer does some quick diagnostic checks, and for some reason doesn't read the speed sensor correctly(or something like that). The update for the ECU apparently fixes this. I'm not sure if they charge you.

My '02 Daytona did this for a bit, and after going to the dealership and getting the ECU update, it hasn't happened again. Hope it stays that way since it's hard to judge your speed by revs alone. On the beneficial side...if the speed isn't registering, then it's not tracking mileage either. : Might mean a better price when you sell........wait, who'd sell their beloved 'Tona??? Nevermind.

Actually, at 6000 rpm, in 6th gear, you are going 160 kph. It's a nice comfort zone.

I don't think I EVER get into 6th gear when I'm riding the roads around here. Usually I'm only in 4th, but it's nice knowing that I've got some room to play.

Good to know it isn't just me
Thanks for the info guys. My CE has been doing the same thing. I bought it in March with 800 miles on it and it just started. It sat at a local Kal / MV dealer for 2 years. I love it but the speedo has been driving me nuts. I've had English rides before and have generally given up on electrical problems as long as they run.
The check engine light just went on at a 2900 mile read. Who knows how many actual. It has what seems to be the original the Battalax 02 tires on that are now worn so I would guess around 350o. The plan was to go to Advance auto to get a OBD II read, but since you guys say I need a ECU update, I might as well railer it over to the dealer in case it is something major casuing the light. Thansk again.
