T595 passenger seat release mechanism

Hi RATS!

Does anyone know if the release mechanism, which seems to be mounted on the sub frame, for the passenger seat, is an available part itself, or would one have to buy the sub frame? The reason I ask is because I wasn't able to find a listing for just the release mechanism on BikeBandit's schematics. (Though I may just have missed it.) I have checked on EBAY and don't see the part currently listed, but will also contact a couple guys on there who are parting out a 'Tona T595.

Found an undertray finally (had an earlier post about looking for one!) and now just waiting on it to arrive from UK. Also got a (new)Corbin seat and then found a tail section off EBAY. New speedo arrived from BikeBandit. Geez...thank God for EBAY or it would be incredibley expensive to just have one little crash! Lol!

Take care all, and ride safe.

i would call the stealership and get the PN, if its under a hundred from them i would just get it there. Its going to be near impossible to source a used one, unless your find someone parting out a bike.

Yes, it may, indeed, come to dealing with the stealership (lol @ "stealership"), and that is a good idea to call them for the part number because what I really need to learn is if the part is seperate from the sub frame...which I am hoping it is. I can't imagine it wouldn't be, I mean it would be lame to have to replace your whole sub frame because the passenger seat latching mechainism is busted! But if that is the case, it worries me that I didn't see it on BikeBandit's schematics. Hmmmmn...

ladyhawk, I compared the '98's and '04's pillion seat lock and they're the same so you can expand your search to '97 through '06 T595/D955 and likely S3 also (possible exception maybe the 1050's body style) if you haven't already.

The dealerships used to have a cd/micro fische/paper copy with every single part and it's part number. At some point a revised copy came out, but deleted some of the small parts and their numbers. Few dealers kept their old copy. A bit of useless info.

For twenty bucks surely you can make this one work!

Ladyhawk! How are ya Girl?
You just need to look in the right fiche - ignition & lockset.
Isn't that obvious?

Nah, I'll give you a waiver on that one - pretty obscure! But makes sense when you realize the connection.

Item #6. OEM Triumph part number incidentally is T2500865.

The 'late' (02+) Daytona seat lock is indeed same part number so you can also make that one work referenced on E-Bay by Wally.

Talking Thanks all!

Hey! Just wanted to thank Wally, the Pearland gentlemen and smartass DEcosse (oops, did I say that outloud?) for the help with the T595 locking mechanism (for the passenger seat)...finally ended up getting the whole $80 part (with keys and all!) from BikeBandit because we're also getting a "new" (used) undertray and might as well just change out the lot, you know? Anyway, BikeBandit was actually pretty speedy this time...must have had it in stock here in the States somewhere.
'Tona will be all back together once undertray arrives! Life is (almost) good again! Ride safe all!

Hey watchit! I resemble that remark!

Here's some more smartness, Blondie (oops, did I say that outloud? )- Quick note on the keys - you can swap the cylinder from the old one into the new lock, which will negate the requirement to have different key for the seat vs the ignition & tank.

Lol DEcosse...what am I to do with you? Yes, I am aware of the potential change-out for the locking cannister thingee ("thingee" a technical term), but somehow we already have two seperate keys for 'Tona (petrol tank/ignition & seat lock)...not really sure how this happened, must have been that the last owner lost his key? Had to replace ignition? Hmmmnnnn...but at any rate, thank you for the idea! (Even though I know you were smirking like a smartass as you wrote "Blondie"...which by the way is Mrs. Blondie to YOU! Hey, where the heck have you been hiding recently anyway? How can I harass & torment you when you are laying so low??!! )

PS- STILL NO UNDERTRAY FROM UK! Grrrrrrrrrrw!:

Excuse me, your Blondeness, I dropped you a couple of e-mails without reply - maybe you didn't get them? Had some suggestions in there for your other question.

On the re-key subject:
Even if you already have two keys, between all the parts you should be able to re-key your tank & seat lock to match the ignition. (the reason I say re-key those two is because the ignition has more lock pins & is the most critical)
Here's a 'how to' off the TL site where someone photo-documented the process. I've done t his myself on my Suzuki - haven't had the Triumph ones apart but I would be sure they are the same

Part 1
Part 2

Where I would disagree with his process, is that filing the lock pins that are 'proud' is pointless - it is easier (& the same net result) to just remove them if you can't find a match.
What I would do is start with the seat latch - that is the simplest of the three lock cylinders and also easiest to remove the cylinder.
Remove the cylinder from your two latches and try the ignition key in each of the them - pick the one with the fewest number of pins that are 'high'. Use the other cylinder as a donor to mix/match pins till you get them all flush (you only need to remove the offending one(s) from your 'good' cylinder of course). As I said earlier, if you cannot find a match to one position, just leave it out.
Same goes for the gas lock, just a little trickier to get the cylinder out.
