Daytona for tall riders?

Hey Forum,

A newb here. I currently ride an Aprilia RST 1000 sport touring bike and would like to add something a bit more agressive to the stable. My dad rode a Sprint for some time and I thought it was a great bike. In the same vein, I was thinking about picking up a Daytona 955 - the price on these is quite good right now. My point of deliberation is whether the bike is tall enough for me? I am 6'3" with a 35" inseam - would this bike suit a taller rider? Obviously it would help if I could sit on one, but my current proximity doesn't lend to that. Are there any years that produced larger Daytonas than others? Finally (and I can't really explain why), but I really like the 2002 model - is there anything significant that I should watch out for on that model? Any significant changes to the suspension/powerplant since then? Many thanks for answers to any of the above. - Don

i think youll be fine with the tona. In 2002 there isnt anything i can think of to look for, other than valves beng checked and adjusted and TB's being synced. im 6' and have to tip toe it. All the tonas have pretty much the same engine and suspension. In 2002 they have the centinial edition which has "special" badging and a single sided swing arm, but still the same engine and suspension. Also the doublesided swing arm bikes tend to sit up higher in the rear, which might be better for you.

I'm 6'1-2" and have a 36" inseam and the bike is perfect for me.

I ride an '02 CE Daytona, stand 6'2" w/ a 34" inseam. When on the pegs, I can lay across the tank and tuck everything in so with my hands on the grips, my elbows rest on my knees and my eyes look just over the top of the screen. But, if I want a more upright riding posture, then I can sit up and it is still comfy but a with bit more wind blast.

For long rides though, I'd recommend the gel saddle...that will be my very next purchase.

6'4 with 36 inch inseam. I fit better on my 955 than any bike I have ever riden.

Look at the bottom of the page for other threads. You will find many tall guys that have the 955.

6'3, 35" inseam here. I luuuuuuuvvvvv my '02. I've never ridden on a more comfortable supersport (it has a gel seat, nice).

One thing I'm doing over the winter is installing some risers, because sometimes I like to sit straight up and still hold the throttle on. Right now I'm keeping it going just on my fingertips, and I've got arms 1" longer than normal people. Other than that, I'm happy.

The only other bike I would consider buying right now is the Tiger 1050. Welllll......maybe a Rocket III too.

I'm 6'2 and just picked up my '04 955i having chose it because it "fit" me better than our jap and italian bretheren. I love the Ducs but you have to be a jockey and < a buck ten to ride one.

I personally don't like the '02 - it's the only year with the double sided swingarm (bar the CE) and the single sided swignarm is much sessier, imho of course!

Had a double sided 02 and now on a single sided 05 and TBH, apart from the obvious, there's little difference.

I'm 6'2" with 34" legs BTW

Thanks!

Guys, thanks very much for the input. Granted, many of the Japanese 4's are screemers but it's hard to beat the sexiness of the
Daytona. I may just have to add one to the stable..
