high milage T3 Daytona

hi all. i know that a definitive answer is impossible, but would a T3 Daytona (1993 model) with 85,000km on the clock be a hugely risky buy? i don't know much about the T3 engines, so have no idea whether even a well maintained engine is likely to be shot by this stage. What sort of money are we looking at for a top-end rebuild should one be required?

Finally, is $6,000 australian as stupid a figure as it seems for a T3?

THE MILAGE ON THAT WAS 87000 MILES AND IT RAN AS GOOD AS MY OTHER ONE WITH 22000 MILES.
I SOLD THAT FOR £1500.
I DON,T KNOW THE EXCHANG RATE IS BUT 6000 AUST DOLLERS

saladin, I wouldn't go over 4000AUD. Might also want to ask here:

Hi saladin, my '98 has nearly 75k on the clock, runs real strong and uses no oil whatsoever.

With proper maintenance, 85,000 klms shouldn't be an issue, the motor should be no where near shot, its probably not even at half life yet. Please be sure that oil changes and valve checks have been done though, this is important servicing that shouldn't be scrimped on.

There is a member here (Ben Rawlinson) who recently clocked over 150,000 miles on his Trident, thats around 260,000 klms! He has a thread that lists the maintenance and repairs he has done over the years, pretty minimal really. As far as I remember, he hasn't even had the head off.

The T3 mill is a very strong and well engineered lump. They are mechanically very noisy, at idle it may alarm you with its clatter but that is normal. When riding and once the rpm's rise, the mill will smooth out, the clatter will disappear.

As far as price, I paid $6,200 for my '98 Sprint Sports, 6k might be a bit high for the '93 but it is a Daytona and they are getting a bit rarer these days. $5,000 would be a good buy IMO.

I hope this helps,

Cheers,

Roden

I paid 6000 for mine in great condition. with 60000km's it's done 170000km's now and needs work. I would love another one to just put in the shed and keep the other to ride. I'm starting to see them for 8000 now and I guess they will only get more expensive.

Other Motorcycle: anything I can get.
My only comment would be that a motor that has been well used and well maintained will be much better than a garage queen that sits for months on end, if its been well maintained go for it.

Saladin,

When I bought my high milage D955 in November the dealers were already getting anxious about selling high milage bikes as these do not appeal to their main market ie: born again bikers.

I don't know what a D900 is worth, but given the decline in the economy, the lack of disposable income out there for buynig bikes means you should be able to scratch out a good deal on your 900.

Hi Saladin,
I agree with all these other comments and would suggest it has a good lot of life in the old girl yet if its been well serviced. Just check the service history, and who has serviced it. If it has been serviced by Charlie at Turn One Motorcycles in Kensington you wont go wrong at all. Are you looking at the red 93 Daytona 900 at Spot On Motorcycles in Elizabeth St? You could probably pick it up for much less than 6k as its been there a good while. If in doubt I would see if you can take it for a test ride and whip over to get Charlie to have a look at it and give you a solid idea if its a good one. Might be very cheap peace of mind for you.
Good luck with it all.
Bernie.
