Question Mechanical assist...

Howdy all,

I'm new to motorcycling, and my '02 CE 'Tona is my first one ever. I've got the Maintenance service manual in eletronic format, but I'd like to meet with someone in my area that can point things out to me...kind of a walk-around, if you will. I want to do as much work on my own as possible, but I'm a noob in the learning phase. Would rather not learn something the hard way.

Also, I'm looking at doing some touch-up painting to go over some of the scratches on my RH fairing...don't think I can do anything about the cracks on the LH side. Any tips on paint?

As always, thank you for the input!!!

Frog

For touch-up paint, I seem to remember reading in an old post on this forum that if you get the paint code for your bike, a local paint store can mix the paint for you and put it in a small spray can, or at least a small can, probably your best bet for touch-up. If you search the forum, theres links to finding out the paint code for your bike.

As far as cracks go, those can be fixed if you want to spend the time. I used a plastic bumper adhesive to bond my fairing back together, then filled the cracks in with bondo and body filler, and then painted the whole fairing. Just depends on how much work you want to do. Actually worked pretty good, I had pieces missing out of it before, now you have to look close to tell its been repaired.

Hope that helps.

I have a 2002 Daytona and I do almost all of my own work.

It's not hard. The most complicated thing you will have to do is that valve adjustments and it's really not that bad. Every once in a while, I'd suggest you take it in, to make sure everything is up to snuff. I really don't know how to balance the throttle bodies and some other things.

When you do the work, just post up with some questions and pictures. The guys on here are very helpful...

Try ColorRite (www.colorrite.com). I got some Caspian Blue and clear coat from them to touch up my 2002. As reported in another post here, the color coat is very translucent. It took four coats to fully cover. Then two coats of clear on top. The match is very good.

The ColorRite web site does not list Triumph back to 2002, but they still have the Caspian Blue on later model Sprints, and that is the color that I ordered. I got it in rattle cans. Happy with the results, but the paint is a bit high priced. You could try contacting them directly if the color you need is not listed. I read somewhere that they were the OEM source for Triumph (saw it on the web, it must be true).

Or for another alternative, try this: www.triumph.co.uk/uk/2046.aspx
They list the Dupont color code for Aston Green (that is your color, I presume).
