Getting a little more power from the 955i

Hey all,
After doing the sprints, I've found the 'tona to be pretty ****ed good at launching compared to jap 4-pots, but it loses out on raw grunt. My top speeds at the end of the 1/4 mile were maybe 10/15mph lower, and I had the throttle pinned throughout. The next sprints are in September, so I'm going to try to do the following before then:

Drop the gearing down a fair amount: This bike isn't going to be doing any motorway cruising, so I can take it pretty low, but I don't want to be struggling to keep the front down too much as this wastes speed. What ratios would you recommend?

Rebuild the engine: She's had 18,000 miles and I'm sure a few horses have been lost. I'm going to take the head out, re-hone the cylinders, fit new gaskets all around along with piston rings, plus I may have the ports polished and the head skimmed a fraction to increase compression. Any more suggestions?

Take the baffles out the exhaust for race day.

Any more ideas would be greatly appreciated!

loco, First I'd start with either a '02> engine or find a '02> beater to build up. This'll get you something like 19 BHP to start with. Dropping weight is free HP. 17/46 is where the front really likes to break contact with Earth.

At the last visit to the track I watched a bone stock ZX14 with the factory extended swingarm and a tied down front end run a 9.4 at 145 MPH without any effort, seemingly. An excellant rider, of course. Unless the Hurricane is released (and the hype believed) there won't be any Triumphs threatening.
