wobbling fuel tank

I was messing around with my just bought '05 daytona 955i and I took the fuel tank off to look at the airbox and stuff but now i feel like an idiot. When i'm trying to bolt the fuel tank back on it won't sit correctly onto the frame. It seems like when I put the tank retention rubber under the tank on the front mount, the rubber jacks the tank up too high and the two support rubbers on the underside of the tank can't contact the frame at the same time, so the tank wobbles back and forth. Am I missing something here. Is there a bolt or screw I'm forgetting about? Or did some type of spacer fall out when i lifted the tank up. I think I have the rear tank mount correctly placed. Just the one screw, going through the clamp plate, the cut length mount and then the rubber rear mount pad. Thanks for any help.

make sure the tank is seated correctly and not hung up on the wiring harness, fuel sending unit or the fuel lines that run to the rail. If those things are clear, tank should drop right in.

I would look at the Bike Bandit fiche.

There is a weird silver spacer on the rear mount that you may be missing.

Also, that front rubber mount does not go all the way underneath, but slides into the slot.

Good luck,
Ed

Be Careful!

Yeah, I have had the same problem with my 02' D955i. It is kind of a pain getting that gas tank back on. Last year, I found out the hard way. I was taking out my gas tank and I accidentally snapped off both gas tank lines (so much for taking the advice of my friends who ride Japanese bikes; their gas tanks are hinged). After having to drill out and tap new line connectors, I had a challenge getting the tank to rest properly. The hex bolt that connects to the frame has not screwed in properly since. It is tight, but the washer/spacer under it has not settled. I am afraid to tighten it anymore, fearing that I will break the hex screw into the frame . Best of luck. Just be careful taking off the tank and screwing everything back together!
