Another Tona on the Road

Well I just completed a 1000 mile road trip from Tyler TX to Tucson AZ on my 03 Tona. The trip went well but I did have to break a lot. Really need a different seat and Heli bars. Only problem I had on the journey are my starter acting funny at a couple places, but other than that. Now I hang out for a week and start the trip back next thursday. Hell of a way to do a touring test run .

And here is a pic of my ending point.

Was your starter trouble after long runs or in hot conditions (looks that way)?
I think the starter and batteries on these do not like heat and after short fueling stops the bike may be hard to start...like the starter is weak. The heat combined with all that hot engine compression really taxes the system.

Try an airhawk seat. There is seriously nothing better for long trips. I've been using one for a few years on IBA rides and it is literally the difference between sore A$$ after a few hours and riding 20+ hours with just gas stops. They are 150 or so bucks, but absolutely worth every penny. Glad the trip went good though...............

PS I love that Blue bike

You know where I can get one of these "airhawk" seats? Also, I went for a little ride the next day into the mountains. When I get back into town and went to fill up, the bike tried starting itself again. This finished it off. Come to find out, the starter relay was going out during the trip and finished off at the gas station by my family's house. This fried and starter and destroyed the battery. I have "ebay " parts coming to fix this for the return ride back. Sort of messed up my trip a bit.

Here ya go.... http://www.derbycycles.com/cgi-bin/e...ex.cgi?pid=204

This is the one I use on the tona and I use a different on for the RS/tona. I bought both of mine from Derby, decent prices and fast shipping. Good luck with the electrical issues.

Wink

Well, I found all the problems on the tona. The starter relay failed and fried the starter and desroyed the battery. I replaced a three pieces last thursday and was on my way home on friday. The ride was really windy through New Mexico which ripped one of my fake intakes off the bike. The ride through Texas was great. Only problem was my sore butt. I wither need to do some really looking to make this bike a good touring bike of get another bike. I'll look into this seat as a possiility. I'm also thinking of hard bags for the next thing.
