2002 Daytona....Help!
Had a great 120 mile ride on my 2002 model 955i on Monday.
No probs at all.

Went to use the bike for work this morning for the first time and within two miles heard the fan cut in and saw the temp guage reading 108 c.
Stopped straightaway to find coolant all ove the left hand side of the bike, and some traces of oil on the rhs of the engine (what could be seen thro the fairing vent)

Got the bike recovered home and will looking at it tonight.
Any ideas where to start?
no previous issues, never used an coolant. Gave the bike a good clean after last ride and no issues apparent then.
What could caues the coolant to blow in such a short time?
Perhaps just a split hose or am i being optimistic? what would result in the bit of oil on the side of the engine? breather?
(engine still sounded ok when switched off, no smoke apparent)

Any ideas at all appreciated

Drain the oil to make sure there is no coolant in it. If there is some coolant, your probably looking at a head gasket.

Well, hang on...

This might not be anything serious. These bikes tend to run a little hot and when they do, they will boil over. The hose vents down to a point that is in between your stator cover and the sprocket guard. If that hose was moved or has been pulled up, it would throw coolant everywhere. If the oil has been overfilled, it can also overflow and the wind from your bike will blow it all over.

I'd say clean your bike really well, check all of your fluids, refill them if necessary, check all of your hose connections and lines to make sure they are connected.

After you do that, fire it up and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, take it for a short ride in the evening, when it's not likely to overheat. When you get back, check your fluids again.

...I guess, don't panic yet.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Good advice fivehundo......

Got home after work last night after a day full of nightmare thoughts of engine rebuilds etc .

Whipped the fairing off to find a hose undone.
checked all other hoses and most were far from tight. Good check over and re-fill of fluids an all seems ok. Short ride got it up to temp ok and no problems apparent.

Will take it for a longer ride this evening before refitting fairing just to be sure.

Fingers crossed nowt more to worry about.............still dont know where the traces of oil came from tho..

Oil leak ideas.

Check your sidestand bolts for oil seepage.

Make sure you have an o-ring around your dipstick.

Check oil line connections below oil cooler.

check oil level to make sure it was not overfilled.

Thanks Pinballer,
no sign of an oil leak now as such.

can only assume it blew some of a breather somewhere?

anway, will take for a decent ride tonight & double check

It will shoot oil out of the breather if overfilled. For example, I have been running extra oil in my bike because of wheelies/stoppies, and everytime I stop there seems to be a alittle oil coming out of the hose, it is a pain, but is also worth it....(but I am running a quart high)

If you do have oil coming out of the overflow hose, and you are not high on oil, I would check the seal, mine has gone bad before and if it does, it will leak a large amount of oil...
