Talking Need help - A mate is looking at a T595

A good mate of mine is looking at buying a 1997 T595 with 40,000K's (26,000 miles) on clock. The price seems pretty good considering the condition - light low speed low sides on left and right.

It has had the sprag clutch and springs/cluster(?) redone (from a good second hand one). Also it has just had some gearbox upgrades, 2nd gear and the 4th gear selector fork replaced and just had the major 40K service done.

Tyres, sprockets and chain need to be replaced. Fork oil needs to be done. It has had light damage on both sides that has been repaired (only scraped fairings left to do). He is looking at possibly changing it to an S3 if it is too bad.

It hasn't had the wiring loom replaced.

I may be looking at it tomorrow. What else do I need to look for besides the obvious tyres, brakes etc? Did the S3's have single or dual lights for that year?

He has ridden my RS and loves the powerband and ride position. Is the T595 that different to my riding position?

It is in the fastest colour too - yellow.. He can't afford a pristine Daytona and loves the triple grunt.

Thanks in advance

steventhechef, Hopefully the fourth gear was replaced with the upgraded part. Otherwise I'd just go through the typical used motorcycle check list plus verifying that the 24K mile service (primarily valve clearance check) has been completed.

Thanks Brad, from what I know the 4th gear was the upgraded part.

I was doing the search thingy too and saw the "blue as opposed to white" earth ground. Where is that located? Do you know?

steventhechef, Some of the earliest T595s didn't have an earth block, as I understand it. If the T595 your friend's interested in has one it'll be on the RH side of the battery box either just inside or just outside the subframe usually wrapped in black foam. The white earth block is common for the '97s and early '98s, but some were retrofitted to the later blue ones.
