Bought a 98 Daytona
Hey everybody. I'm new to this place.
When it stopped snowing in WI last week, a guy down the road from me parked a 98 Daytona T595 out front with a sign - For Sale $3000. I quickly went over, started it, rode it and paid him quick. Turned out he had barely used it since 2002. It has 13K miles but looks and runs like new. It was all stock except undertail exhaust. I have owned alot of bikes, mostly Hondas and Harleys, but never a Triumph. You have already answered some of my questions here but I have more. This bike is awesome. I'm still in shock. I didn't sleep at all last night. I'll try to post some pictures and questions soon, but right now I have to go ride. Forget work, I'm sick. More later.

Welcome to the World of Triumph Triples & to TriumphRat.net.
Sounds like you got a fantastic bargain - that undertail is worth at least a grand!
Enjoy!

Pics and undertail
OK I took some pics after riding. Does anyone recognize who made this exhaust? I can't find any ID on it.
Notice I took off the rear signal stems and mounted the signals right off the end of the frame under the tail. I like it but may change the lenses to clear. I'm also wondering if anyone knows if you can buy plain hub caps for the rear axle ends? The Triumph caps are $75.
Another question: has anyone put film tint or painted the underside of the stock clear windscreen rather than buy a smoked windshield?
Any other tips for improvements let me know.

Just bought a t595 also
I just got a '98 t595. It was laid down, so the guy took off the fairings. It looks like a s3, but I want taller handlebars. Does anyone know how to mount "hooligan bars" on a Daytona. Also, will the cables reach or will they need to be replaced?

ebay has the caps for cheap. dont know about the exhaust, maybe a black widow.... My buddy did his windscreen with black pant on the underside, and it looks good.

Rat... just get a top clamp from a S3 and mount you some bars on there, or you could throw some heli bars on ther also. As for the cables, im not too sure, you might be able to get away with it.

Nice bike! Sounds like an awesome deal from what I see. There are bikes of the same year in bary rideable condition going for close to 4G's around here! I wish I could find a deal even close to that good... Enjoy the bike and that sweet, sweet sound!

The two I know of are Wolf/Trident (still available) & Black Widow (no longer available) - the Trident for sure is a twin muffler design & I thought the ' Widow was too. So I'm a bit stumped - may be a custom job.

As Japwhat02 suggest, S3 top clamp & riser will be best bet for stock 22mm bars or add 'fat' after-market risers to the S3 top yoke plus the 29mm tapered bars for another option. OEM S3 top clamp & risers are rare commodities on EBay however - VERY popular item when they come up, which is rare.
LSL do a bar conversion top clamp/riser converion kit - check out Speigler, pretty sure they offer it.
Clip-on options would be HeliBars, Convertibars, CycleCat or Gilles Variobar to name a few - none will give you that naked regular sit-up-&-beg handlebar look, but can evoke a 60's cafe racer style, naked plus clip-ons.

Either way you will most likely require new brake line(s) - I think clutch & throttle cable will be OK.
