Valve adjustment

I got a 04 955i with a little over 12k on it and its about time for a valve adjustment. Im a tech so im going to do it myself but i dont know the specs and does it take a feeler gauge or some other kind of tool. Im also getting oil in my air box i know i should have alittle because of ccp but im having to drain the air box everyday. Thanks for any help.

Chad

I suggest that you purchase a Haynes Service & Repair Manual if you are going to perform this kind of service. My own manual does not cover your model, so I can not give you specifics, but this job is covered in the book.

I bought mine from www.discountautorepairmanuals.com It costs $23.95.

Chad, First there is no reason for the air box to collect oil. To check the oil clean the dipstick, raise the m/c to vertical and back to the side stand. Oil should be at the ring below the flutes. If on a paddock stand the dipstick will read at the flutes. Capacity is 3.5 litres with a filter change.

Checking clearances is like on any engine with solids, but it's best to have the manual if any shims need replacing.

Thanks John ive been looking for a book. I know there not suppose to be alot of oil in the air box but there will be a little because of the crank case breather or am i wrong. Either way i got a whole lot of oil in my air box if i ride hard i can get anywhere from a pint to a half of a pint in two to three days and i know thats not normal. Its not helping my air cleaner either my air cleaner.

Blacktop04,

I am not going to pretend that I am a gearhead, but I do not believe you should be getting oil in the airbox at all.

On my 1200, I have three small diameter hoses that hang down just about where the center stand would be, if I had one. I know that one is for the battery, another is for the gas tank if it overflows. I am not sure about the last, but I think it is a vacume hose for my four carbs. Or maybe it is for the crankcase. Whatever it is for, maybe you are missing a hose and therefore, what should be directed to the ground is instead being sucked into the airbox. I wish I could be more helpful, but like I said, I am not completely conversant with the engine department

Good luck.
