There is a great Group Buy for the Tune Boy going on... But when I look at the description

"For Keihin or Sagem ECU(Triumph version), this includes the USB TuneBoy cable, diagnostic software and one TuneEdit key, This is everything you need to make custom maps and diagnose faults for your Triumph with the Keihin or Sagem ECU. This supports all Triumphs including the Rocket III, Rocket III Classic, 1050 Speed Triple, 1050 Sprint, Daytona 600,650 and 675. Includes 675 Race kit ECU tune."

I don't see the 955i Daytona in the list of bikes that it works for. Is this the Tune Boy I need or is there a diffrent version?

955i has a sagem ECU. It will work fine once you get the key.

Will somone kindly explain (in as much excruciating detail as possible

) the benefit of tuneboy starter kit vs. the price? Even $100 off list price for essentially a cable and program seems outrageous-there's no real hardware here right?

From another thread, someone (Rexxypup?) mentioned most of the cost comes from having a tune key that allows custom tune upload. Said poster also mentioned it's possible to buy a replica cable, download the program from the site and have some type of basic functionality at essentially the cost of the cable. What's the benefit of the custom tunekey feature vs. basic?

I'm curious to hear tuneboy owners if you feel the benefit was worth the price. What kind of performance increase did you see?

Hi,

First off... I am nothing to do with Tuneboy, other than a satisfied customer, who has had customer support above and beyond what you normally get, but I'll see what I can do to help you decide....

1. you can download the software without charge from the site. So you can play around with it, and see what you can change (if you are brave enough).

2. you can buy separately the cable for your bike (http://www.tuneboy.eu/buynow.aspx), which according to the text on the page...

TuneBoy USB Cable (Triumph/MZ Fitment)
For Sagem and Keihin equipt Triumphs and MZ1000s. This includes a USB TuneBoy cable specific to this fitment and diagnostic software. This is everything you need to diagnose faults for your MZ or Triumph. Requires TuneEdit license to download maps.

The full starter kit allows you to download different tunes to your ECU, controlling fuelling, timing and others.

If you have a real desire or need to tune flatspots out of your engine, gain some power, then this is the kit. There are family of tunes out there called Massive Midrange, developed by a guy in the states that gets rid of the hole in the power/torque that exists 3-6000rpm and makes the bike a much better ride. If you want to download his tune, or any others developed by people, then you need the full kit.

The software is unlocked by a unique key provided to you by Tuneboy when you supply the serial number of your ecu. This is the seed for generating the unlock code, so your software will only work with that ecu, unless you pay for another unlock code for another ecu.

There are many other threads on this forum about why Tuneboy price appears high, compared to what it appears to do. The bottom line is significant development went into this software, there are a number of 'security protocols' the software has to go through to access the ECU, which aren't made common knowledge and so had to be reverse engineered by Tuneboy

Finally the 675 Daytona racers in the UK use this software to tune their bikes... I had a chat with the guy on a stand at the bikeshow last year when I saw it wearing the Tuneboy decal... a pretty fair endorsement by any standards.

you could always go for the power commander approach which would allow you to do similar (with less functionality and control) but all that does is frig the signal after the ECU has generated it, so there are certain regimines in the engine control where it is not beneficial, and for similar money, why not actually talk to the organ grinder rather than add a monkey.... sorry best analagy I could come up with
