The check engine light came on this morning, is there a way to check this without a scan tool? Ambient temperature at time of starting was 50 F. Battery was a little low but bike started in less than five seconds and sounded ok. Oil level was checked and is ok.

There is no way to get the code that set it w/o a scanner.
The low battery may well have been the cause in this case.
If it is not a prolonged condition the MIL light will usually reset after three warm-up cycles. The code will remain for 40 cycles so you can still have it pulled later. If the fault condition remains however the light will stay illuminated.

Thanks for the info. I will start it a couple of times over the next day or two and let it warm up to normal temp range and see if the light goes out.
