Forks bottoming out 02 Daytona

I just got back from a 15 minute ride with a zip tie around one of my fork sliders.
I was just cruising. Zip tie is all the way at the top. I have not even pretended to brake hard on this bike yet. I set the fork oil height at the recommended setting when I changed it, and the front end feels good, no excessive dive. I understand that the 955i has a short amount of fork travel but I have not even pushed this bike yet and plan on doing trackdays.

I have AMSOIL Medium Weight in the forks, all internals are stock.

Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Ed

1. Have you checked the sag?
2. Do you feel it bottom out?

My Sag (checking it alone which is not optimal is right at 38mm, pretty much the limit). I am going to crank the preload down and see if I can get it more to the 30-34 range. I guess it is undersprung a tad.

I did not feel the bottoming out but the zip tie was jammed to the triple so I am not far from it. I did not even brake that hard. I raced an Aprilia rs250 for a season that was undersprung and would bottom out. I have some good footage of my bike wagging badly with forks bottomed out braking into turn 5 at Summit.

We will see what happens with the preload and I will double check the fork oil level now that I have ridden it a few miles...to make sure there was no air trapped in the cartridges when I flushed out the old fluid. I may add a few more cc's. I went with the stock amount.

I weigh 180 with no gear on. The daytona suspension is all stock except for the Amsoil fork oil.

You might be better off using oil level instead of volume. I think we used to set the level on the 250's at 100mm from the top of the tube with the springs out and the fork compressed. The idea is to optimize the oil level so that the air inside acts as an extra spring; this helps keep the thing from bottoming if the spring rate isn't perfect.
