Whoa - when'd it get this fast???

FINALLY, got the Daytona out for a ride today - first one since Thanksgiving (it's been cold here in the midwest).

Anyway, it was also my first ride on a 'tona with full body work (I bought and rode mine without the fairing pieces...restored it over the winter)
changed the oil, corrected the air in the tires, checked all the lights...bundled up (it was 44 today) and away I went

ANYWAY after a mild warm up ride through town, I got her out on the open road - I wound it up in first ---> hard shifted to second - to full throttle and the front wheel comes up!!! WOOHOO....before I know it (and before it even feelt like it) I'm into triple digits and wondering how I got there...
I don't remember the bike being such an animal last year...
what a great bike....

I have always ridden Vtwins and may last bike was an 03 Speed Triple. Great bike, great power delivery nice and low like I was used to. I realized it had no top end on a trip with my Brother and his FZ1.

Now I have an 02 Daytona 955i and finally had a chance to run it through to 4th full throttle and realized that I was going faster than I expected. Where my Speed Triple would fizzle out, the Daytona is just waking up.

Fun bike but a little overkill for scratching the backroads. I am looking for another twin. Maybe a Superhawk again with a 929 front end and a decent shock.

Speaking of wheeling off in 2nd, I can't even get mine to do that in first unless I really crank on it. For some reason, after I had to get some engine work done on it, it just doesn't have the get-up-and-go like she used to. Any way to go to a shop and check the HP on a machine or something? What's it called? Never done this and Im kinda worried future engine problems will arise with the low HP symptoms I have now. Of course it did just get out of the shop 800 miles ago so...

I installed a Euroracing throttle and put in the biggest wheel. My bike "feels" fast and comes on hard partly due to that. I barely have to twist my wrist for full throttle.

there's quite a power difference between the 04s and a 99...
and, I think the 99 is carbed, 04 injected...(not sure on any of this)

you could have a jet problem now that other things have been corrected...just a thought
