From April - Daytona running rough, cutting out.

Time flies when you're having fun.. the local mechanic (old school) figured out the problem - the in-tank fuel pump was delivering very little pressure to the injectors, then the fuel line kept blowing off the new pump. The most costly part was the little bypass valve.

Murphy's Law.. riding the Daytona to the mechanic, the left fork seal starting leaking, so he fitted new seals too.

So she's running very nicely now, and a blast to ride. I joined the Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride 3 weeks ago for a tour of the Atherton Tablelands - left Atherton to meet up at Yungaburra, then to Malanda, on to Millaa Millaa by a narrow winding backroad, to Ravenshoe also by winding backroads, on to Tumoulin, Herberton, through Atherton again to a late lunch at Peeramon - great bike roads.

Question: does anyone know of good aftermarket clip-on bars that would lift my hands a bit higher? There's room inside the fairing to lift the bars about an inch.

Hi I Use LSL bar risers they move the bars up and back about 1 inch makes a big difference. Hard to find now but I did a search found these in the UK. A friend of mine has Gilles bars on his Daytona. Have tried his but I prefer the LSL bars found them more comfortable for me and they look better .
Have a look at my album with LSL photo's. PS no need to change brake lines cables etc

Here's a bike just like yours for sale in the UK with only 1920 miles on the clock why don't people ride them.

I have Convertibars on mine which were $460au delivered to AU from USA.
Postage was killer.
Worth it though. Infinitely adjustable.
I gained around 6 inches up and 3 or 4 inches back.
It's like riding a trail bike now, super comfy upright position and can ride all day without getting even slightly sore and tired.
The only thing is that you need longer brake lines.
No biggie.

Thanks PaulM, The LSL bars look good, but 240-odd quid plus shipping would be around AU$500. Maybe I'll find a 2nd hand set. The gold Daytona for sale looks good too - as you say, hard to understand why someone would buy it and then not ride it. Maybe it was a bit more bike than he can handle!

Thanks Adrian. I like that these replacement bars go straight into the base without the need to remove the triple clamps, but that's not possible on my bike, as the bars are one piece including the base, at least as far as I can see. There are no clamping bolts that would allow the replacement or adjustment of the bars. I guess yours is a different model? or you bought the bases as well? My bike is the 2006 model.

The stock bars are separate from the top triple clamp (top plate).
The convertibars just replace the stockers without changing the top clamp but you do have to remove it to install them.
The top clamp and clipon bars have their own pinch bolts as well as one small bolt (8mm I think) holding the bars to the clamp for location purposes.
Convertibars adjustability is second to none.
You have rotation fore to aft on the fork tubes for reach.
Up and down on the risers to ease back pain.
And the bars rotate eccentrically for droop for wrist comfort.
I will keep mine forever and transfer over to whatever bikes I may end up with in the future.

Hi Adrian.

I had a look at the Skyking site, and the photos show the bent replacement bars going into the base and clamped with allen bolts. And the text assumes that these are standard, so the top triple clamp doesn't need to come off.
Picture from Skyking attached.

But on my bike, the straight bar and the base are in one piece, so did your bike come with the removable bars and you just fitted the Skyking bars? or did you fit the bases as well, which means the top triple clamp had to come off?

I've tried to upload a picture of my bars but the file is too large.
