Engine stall-out/Shut-off at stop light/stop sign???
Hey guys, I don't know what it going on, but I just got my bike back from the shop. Tons of things needed to be done ( in short, new cylinder head, Connecting rods, Crankshaft, seals, gaskets, etc...). So I got it back and I'm having a problem with the bike. It used to do this before I had to take it to the shop which was a completely unrelated issue, but when I pull up to a stop sign, or stop light, my engine all of a sudden cuts out. I don't know why it does this but I have to restart it then seems to be running just fine again. It's like when the engine slows down, it doesn't stop at 1000-1500RPM to idle, it just keeps goin down till it shuts off.. even while Im at an idle speed for 30-45 seconds, it all of a sudden just does it. I hooked it up to my TuneBoy and looked at the settings and everything seems to be in order. And I can't replecate the issue in a parking spot, only when I pull up to a stop light or stop sign. Any clues as to why it's doing this?

Fuel Injectors
Your issues sounds similar to a friends 955i. When riding to a stop, the bike would just shut down. He had the problem diagnosed as bad fuel injectors. After having a few replaced, the bike ran fine. I've heard fuel injectors were a common problem on early 955i engine equipped Triumphs.

Might be a good place to start looking.

Good luck.

I second that.......I bought an '01 955i with only a 1,000 miles on it and it did the same thing........ran a couple of tanks of high test through it with fuel injector cleaner.....good as new. Worked for me anyway.

I have about 10K on my '01 955, and have not had that problem, but Silver's post made me wonder if you're using the recommended 89 octane? I really don't know how the octane would affect the injectors, though. Probably too much in town riding!

My bike has done this also!
This is my second 2001 Daytona 955i.
I never had this problem with my bike back in Texas. I bought the same bike here in Austria and have had this problem more than a few times now.
I have been wanting to buy some injector cleaner to pour in the tank but have not gotten around to it as I only rode it for the first time this year yesterday. My first thing this weekend will be to buy some injector cleaner!
But if anyone has any more on this problem, I'm listening...

I had this same thing happen to me last year. As best as I could tell, it was bad fuel.

I was out riding one day and running low on fuel. Of course, the only station around was a BP. I hate BP! I normally won't even use it in a lawn mower, let alone my bike. So I only filled it enough to get back home. Next day, I try to take the bike out and it dies at every stop. I spent the whole day trying to figure out what was wrong. Finally, I just went and got a gas can full of Sonoco 93 and poured that in. Problem solved.

I don't know what it is, but all of my vehicles seem to run better on Shell or Sonoco vs anything else. Every vehicle I have ever owned has at some time had a bad experience with BP. You would think by now I would know better...

I don't think it is a grounding problem...
If there were a grounding problem causing the stalling then the bike would also stall running at higher rpm's and running down the road at speed and not just then when you come to a stop laying off the throttle. I am not a mechanic but this is just my personal oppinion. I would rather think it would be the injectors not spraying perfectly at idle. I will let ya'll know if I cured the problem with injector cleaner in the tank. But it might take a week or so seeing as how the weather around here is crap!
