Question LED indicators - Help!

Hi there

I recently fitted LED indicators to my 06 model 955 Daytona. Realising that I'd need to put a replacement relay on I've now tried 2 new, supposedly LED compatible, relays.

Both times the indicators simply won't work when the replacement relay is fitted. I tried getting the second new one from a different supplier to try and ensure that the first wasn't simply duff. The indicators do work (They simply flash too quickly when the original relay is fitted).

What do I need to do?

Is it a case of using the original relay and fitting an additional resistor to either the front or rear indicators? if so what resistance does it need to be and how's the best way of fitting it?

Many thanks.

Take both the old and new units and look at the prongs. There should be letters at the base of the prongs. The replacement one that I bought had two of the letters switched. (It did not work either when I first hooked it up.) I switched the wires on the socket to match the prongs. Installed and it works great. Be careful when removing the wire connector from the socket. Use small needle or nail that will fit in the small little square on the outside edge of the connector. Slide the nail in to release the tab on the connector from the housing. Before re-installing make sure to bend the tab away from the connector so it will re-hook on the housing.

If this was not clear, please do not hesitate to ask.

Signal relay

What source are you using to but the aftermarket relay? British Customs sells one http://www.british-customs.com/kisan...2-pr-1415.html a little pricey but has more features.
I got mine from an auto supply shop. My bike is getting service so I cant give you the part number from the one I used. I am expecting it back this week. If you haven't found one that works by then. I'll post the one I used.

Wink

Cheers for the reply guys. I'll check the new relay when I'm back home this weekend and see if they match up to the wires.

Hopefully they'll be the wrong way around and it'll be a simple matter of switching them.

Here's hoping and I'll let you know how I get on.

If you have gone from a standard lamp to a LED you have to wire in a load equalizer ( resistor ) most of the Kuriakyn kits come with them. I think Custom Dynamics sells them separately.I had to add them to mine.

No you don't if you get the correct Electronic FLasher Module; these are available for < $20 and plug n play versus having to splice in resistors, which then get hot.

Also, I'm not fond of the suggestion to re-wire the bike's connections to fit the wrong part - down the road that undocumented change to stock wiring is going to cause someone problems. Just get the correct part to begin with!

Get the CF13GL-02 variable load relay from superbrightleds.com

DEcosse,

Will that module also work for a 2003 daytona 955i? I tried searching the website to see. But could not draw any conclusions.

Yes that will work for your Daytona - mine is 2002 Daytona, but it will also work for other years.

I agree with DEcosse.
A buddy told me the flasher is not easily replaced on his CBR. If that was the case. I'd go with the resistor.
The engineers for our bikes were smart enough to use an automotive signal relay (why reinvent the wheel right?) The electronic flashers are readily available from an auto supply shop. I experimented with a few different ones. Pep Boys were kind enough to let me exchange them.
My bike is still in the shop and I haven't had a chance to stop by and look at the part number I used.

Thumbs up Fixed it

Thanks to Cal-Riss' advice I've managed to fix the indicators. Simply switching the 2 input wires has got them working perfectly.

Thanks Cal-Riss.
