Used 2004 955i-Maintenence Reco

After falling in my love with my 95 Daytona 900, I decided to add a baby brother. I'll be picking up my 04 Daytona 955i special edition this weekend!!!

Since I've purchased the bike from a dealership, previous maintenence records will most likely be unavailable. The salesperson said he'd try to contact the previous owner, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

The bike has 6k miles on the dot. I believe Triumph recommends a valve check at this mileage.

I have the following questions:
*What is involved in the 6k check?
*Is the valve check doable by oneself?
*If I take to a dealer, how much to expect this to cost? (I live in NYC.)
*Is there anything additional I or a mechanic should look over?
*For those in NYC area, is there a dealer you'd recommend? Gold coast is probably the closest to my location, though I haven't been to that shop.

I'll post some pics of the brothers after I get the 04 back to my garage.
Cheers.

Hi Scott,

My 04 has over 12k miles on it and the valves adjustments are fine but I've had my bike since the beginning and I don't think I'm the hardess driver here...here id a link for the maintenance manuel, you'll find all the info necessary...unless your valves are starting to ring I would not open the motor just to check. Depending your your mecanic inclination consider a valve chaeck around 3 hours and you'll be able to check pretty much everything else.

good luck

I don't know how far you are from the city but you can try the Triumph/Ducati dealer on Avenue of the Americas & Spring Street. 212-989-1414 ask for Marcos or Ed, cool guys. I understand that they just opened a repair shop in Queens so if you took your bike to them, it would be serviced in Queens.

Good luck...

Hey nyc dread,

I'm in Brooklyn, so soho ducati would be the closest, but from what I've heard the shop charges more than other dealerships. It would make sense the cost is more considering the rent is more costly than dealers located outside the city.

Still, I'll give them a call to price it out.

The book says first valve check 12000miles or two years but I would go with the miles.

The rest of the 6000 mile service apart from the oil and filter change is all checks so shouldn't be too expensive.

As it is getting on for four years old and you don't know where its been a coolant and brake fluid change would be a good idea.

Looks like it 6000 mile isn't too big a deal. Mostly an oil change and fluid check. I get a bit nervous wrenching on anything "inside" the engine hence why I was keen to take this to a dealer. Maybe I'll loosen up over the next 6k miles and do the valve adjustment myself. lol.

Thanks guys.
