Valve shim Normal Range

Well, its 11k on the clock and its time to do the first valve check. I learned really quickly last time on my VFR that I want to have the correct shims on hand if I want this to be a .5 day job and not a 4 day job. So my question the the gurus is: what is the normal size shim range that a non-abused 03' 955i daytona uses? I can buy a hotcams shim kit for way less than I would spend running around town looking for specific shims. I have a very nice digital micrometer so I can also make sure that the speced size is that I'm really putting in. So let me know.
Also, I've read that with the shim under bucket you pretty much have to pull the cams, as my last bike had gear driven cams I really don't know how I slacken the timing chain. Does anyone have a nice walk through for adjusting the valves. I'm still holding my breath that since its the newer engine it won't need adjustment at 12k but, if i don't have the shims it WILL need it.
Thanks,
Sloan Lindsey

I checked my 955 ST Sprint twice and found my valves were perfect. I have read where this is rather common. You may not need any shims......John

Yeah, check the clearances before you pull the cams (which you will need to before you switch the shims).

Most times, the 955i motor is pretty reliable. After over 20k miles, my 955 had two valves out of spec by a couple hundredths. It wasn't in dire need of adjustment, but I did it anyway.

FYI, the Daytona uses the 9.5 diameter shims, not the smaller ones.

Yup, thats the range they should be in, but I was wondering what the stock size for the shim is? ie is it 1.05 1.95.... because I'll order 30 shims around that range and should have what i need.
Thanks,
Sloan

P.S.
I'm hoping i don't need any adjustment but this bike is so nice I don't wanna hurt it through neglect.

No, it's bigger than that. Most of my shims are over 2. The shims in my engine range from 2.3 up to 2.75.

I'd say if you ordered 2 to 2.8, you'd be fine...
