i have now joined the triumph crew, just got my daytona!

this is my first formidable sports bike, and as such, i have some questions... im used to smaller bikes

i just bought a manual online, cuz it didnt come with one, but in the meanwhile, i have some stupid newbie questions:

-no fuel switch right?
-automatic choke? i couldnt find the choke and just kept hitting the ignition button like 10 timed till it finally started

so i got her started up in my garage, revved the engine some, then turned it off. then a little while later i went out to play with the gearshift, get the feel of it. then i tried to start it and it wouldnt start, and all of the sudden the oil light comes on, as well as the check engine light, followed shortly by the gas light (even though there is lots of gas in it)

im assuming this is because im new to this bike and am doing something wrong - any ideas?

Welcome to the crew and congrats on the new bike.

It does not have a choke and there is not a fuel switch.
No reserve basically. There will be a low fuel light that will come on, That is your reserve.

Also you said you were messing with the gears, did you have the kick stand down and have it in gear? Even when pulling in the clutch with the kickstand down and in gear, it will not start. Only if the kickstand is up, or you put in neutral with it down.

well it was trying to start...

someone on another forum said that i should change the oil immediately, just because it was bought used and hadnt been ridden in a while - he said mobil one was good, but im looking through this manual and cant figure out what kind to use - i have some 15w-50 in the garage, id love to be able to use that will it work?

I have used Mobil 1 15w-50 fully synthetic for the past 12000 miles on my 02 daytona and it seems to work well. I dont like paying top dollar for "motorcycle oil"...I know i know, another oil thread...lol

Beautiful bike, but I have no opinion on the oil issue.

When I first got mine a couple of months ago, I had trouble starting too! I found turning on the ignition and leaving for a few second before hitting the starter, I think that gives the fuel injection time to work out what it needs!
It's a bugger having no reserve tap I reckon. I just checked oil level how manuals says and it seems overfull, and has just come back from dealer....

What a great looking bike! Nothing like a 955 on the road, period. It looks like shes' found a good home and a proud owner. It'll give you all the power you ask for and is really a great bike to get into big horsepower with, it's not flighty like an in line four. I used the oil Triumph sells, which is synthetic. I'm lucky to live close to a dealer. The not starting issue may be a leaking gasket at the fuel pump housing in the tank, or it may be a bad fuel pump. I had the same problem which was reapired by replacing the pump. If it only gives you problems when cold, it may not be too bad. If it hard starting even after riden, then it is the pump. Shouldn't be a problem though. Enjoy that great bike!!
