I'd love to have a wolf exhaust, but at £895 list price on the website (around $1,500) I can't afford one. If I can buy an R1 or CBR exhaust on ebay for around $150 and run my own pipe up to it, that is much more affordable, though perhaps less professional. I'll just end up going to a local dyno and getting my PCIII tuned for the pipe anyway so I don't think the hp/torque difference will be all that big.

hey, just thought i would let people know that Wolf contacted me and said that the system they usually sell for 1,399 is on sale right now for 1,099. true, its a savings but i dont think its enough off to make me dive in just yet but if anyone out there does have the cash, go nuts. if anyone else takes the CBR/R1 route let us all know how it goes especially if someone gets it on the dyno.

I'm just going to play with a pipe bender and my TIG welder since I'm a QC-7 TIG cert welder. My auctions for the CBR exhaust should be done in another day or so, then when it arrives I'll be ripping into the bike to fit and weld it up.

I've got half the project done so far and just need to sort the coolant reservoir and mounting points for the shield and exhaust.

I should be able to have these taken care of by the end of tomorrow though.

I didn't have to remap or anything, although want a tune boy, because anything could be tweaked or at least played with.It almost seems to have a bit more power, but again it's been cooler these days, these bikes love cold air and haulin ass, at least mine does.
Anyway, here is a transcript of a PM conversation with Kuhlka posted here w/ his permisson:

kuhlka: I'm doing a CBR1000RR undertail like you posted and could use some tips
kuhlka: like how you moved the coolant and mounted the shield/exhaust.
coolmite2001: ok
coolmite2001: i used a smaller overfill resevoir and have it under the right side console piece next to where the blinker maounts the fairing.....it's cooler here(TX) so it hasn't been an issue yet....but summer may prove different as triumphs tend to run hotter than the jap bikes, so i've seen
kuhlka: where did you pick up the overfill reservoir?
kuhlka: I'm on a speed triple so I don't have a fairing to hide stuff under like the daytona
kuhlka: I was thinking I might use a smaller reservoir in the same spot or next to it.
coolmite2001: the stock one is divided into 3 sections..I cut out the middle one a put the ends together with epoxy and fiberglass
kuhlka: ahh, ok. I might do that if NAPA or other shops don't have something I could use.
coolmite2001: almost the entire fender was cut out
kuhlka: Yeah, I chopped the whole thing after the fuse box and mounting points.
coolmite2001: up to the battery and the cross member of the rear frame at the very back (1'' Sqare tubing, but the latching meechinism piece is plenty of structural support
coolmite2001: the heat shield i just drilled holes through the side frame tubes and mounted thru the heat shield oem holes
kuhlka : How did you get the shield up so high? I've only been able to get it about an inch below the tail section lock. Yours looks like it is right under it.
kuhlka : whoa, did you cut that black crossmember bar at the back?
kuhlka : I just noticed that in your pic. That is whats keeping mine from fitting up that high.
coolmite2001: actually mounted thru the oem muffler mounts with heat shield on tap HOW:"love taps" with a mallet, and a floor jack on top of the rear tire
coolmite2001: yeah, crossmember had to go
kuhlka : the frame is aluminum right?
coolmite2001: yes
coolmite2001: I recently added a stock "03 daytona 600 taillight and it's bad ass
kuhlka : Ok, I can weld in new supports if needed later.
kuhlka : got pics of that light?
coolmite2001: swapped my buddy 4 it
kuhlka : I might go the LED route with one of the LED tails I've seen.
coolmite2001: sweet, so u have R1 duals or the new one?
kuhlka : nothing new yet. I've just been looking at the LED daytona tail lights that look the same as stock but have like 50 LEDs instead of a bulb
kuhlka : some even have integrated signals
coolmite2001: that's what i've got - the integrator kit.the new light is pointed like and R1 and actually 2 seperate lenses, and they pulse when braking, i love it
coolmite2001: yeah
kuhlka : where'd you buy it?
kuhlka : and the exhaust mounts into the footpeg mounts then?
coolmite2001: local shop, i dont remember the brand, but their wiring was backwards on the triumph color code that came with it
kuhlka : lol
kuhlka : Well, I should be able to get most of the rest of this done tomorrow then
kuhlka : Just need to get that reservoir hooked up and get it mounted. I'm just kind of wary of cutting that crossmember. Did it give you any extra clearance from the rear tire?
coolmite2001: not mounted, its bolted directly to the frame (explained b4) and welded to the exhisting pipe(which I cut about 4-6" off and had a muffler guy bend a connecting pipe and there ya go.It's not moving
kuhlka : uploading pics of my progress so far. I'll link in a sec
coolmite2001: me too
coolmite2001: http://photos.yahoo.com/crotchrocketcaptain
kuhlka : hmm says no photos available
coolmite2001: this is the first time I've had to check the forum and i noticed alot of these ?'s from other members, with ur permission I'm gonna cut/paste this session to the forum.OK?
kuhlka : np, sounds good
coolmite2001: cool, the new lights r the last 2 pics
kuhlka : I'm starting my own post on the speed triple forum with the first half of my work.
coolmite2001: sweet, I'm with u, glad to help out some one else who wasn't about to shell out $1200+ for something that can be done for $100-200.
kuhlka : lol, yeah. I was kind of offended by Wolf posting about their exhaust being on sale considering they were still charging like $900+ for it.
kuhlka : probably like $1200
kuhlka : you kept the tail light plastic mount right?
kuhlka : noticed you've got video games listed as an interest in your profile, lol. I'm the 'hardcore' type of gamer, myself.
coolmite2001: no, did at first until switched the 600 taillight I used the one that came with it, (my friend has a 03 600 he's converting for race and I scored the taillight and misc. other parts.I love the body styling of the 600 -650 better than the 955.Consumer request to triumph: 955i 3cyl into a daytona slightly larger 600 frame/body.
coolmite2001: xbox mostly, but riding is better than any video game, it's the real deal man.
kuhlka : yeah, I hate this Ohio weather. Its 4degrees out. Anything over 32 rain or shine and I'm on the bike.
coolmite2001: me 2
coolmite2001: try to avoid rain...but ain't scared of it
kuhlka : My riding season didn't end until around dec. 12th or so when it dropped below 32 and started snowing. When the snow melted and jumped up to 60 though I was on it.
kuhlka : I don't mind riding in the rain as long as its warm or I've got the gear for it. I find the S3 handles really well in the rain and easily shoots through puddles and such on the country roads out here with no problems at 90ish
kuhlka : I love practicing with my rear brake locke in the rain.
coolmite2001: Texas weather is unpredictable. One day is 20 -30 degrees rain, sleet. next day 75 -80 partly cloudy
kuhlka : do you mean this light is the one you've got? http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...view_photo.php
kuhlka : http://www.triumphrat.net/modules.ph...view_photo.php
coolmite2001: kewl, i'd like to ride one sometime - same bike less plastic, i'm trying to get my wheelies up now, can only do 1st gear ones now, but its such a touchy gear, i don't wanna 12 oclock my $9000 bike andcan't seem to get it up in second if anyone has any pointers.I've tried rolling it on hard
kuhlka : I know you can clutch it up in 2nd, but haven't a clue how that feels or how to do it yet. I can pretty much do power wheelies on demand with the S3.
kuhlka : but I can only ride out 1st gear so far.
kuhlka : I plan to get into stunts seriously this spring
coolmite2001: (throttle) , getting rpm's up to 4-7000 and let offthen jam it, but can't do it, plus that's going too fast for me to learn at u know?thought of a sprocket change.Any tips?
kuhlka : I taught myself on an SV1000. What I find works the best is rolling the gas on up to about 5000rpm then letting off. Wait until you can feel the bike kind of surge slowing down, you'll feel the engine braking, then wick the throttle back on. Just start light and wick it harder and harder until you get the front end to come up.
kuhlka : Once you get the front end to jump up its just a matter of getting over the fear of it. I spent a few months over the summer on that SV1000 leaping into the air and scaring the***** out of myself until I got it down.
coolmite2001: Stunting is nutz.I just wanna learn wheelies, maybe stoppies, and possibly the standing/sliding on your feet next to it w/ sparks***** is pretty insane.Have riden with some guys here and see it
kuhlka : Funny that the S3 is so much smoother and controlled than the SV1000. That bike is a torque monster and just screams to 12 oclock.
coolmite2001: http://www.dfwsportbike.com/index.php
kuhlka : Yeah, I'm not going to get into much beyond actual technical skill stunts. I want to learn how to do standing burnouts, standup wheelies and go through all the gears standing up, stoppies, and power slides. I do powerslides with the rear wheel locked already and its great fun, but dangerous.
coolmite2001: cool site, I live in Dallas and there are alot of gatherings here and group rides it's cool
kuhlka : I actually want to go to video game design school down in Dallas area at Southern Methodist U. at the Guildhall.
kuhlka : but its really expensive and I'd need extra money for rent/food/living expenses.
kuhlka : did you post about the undertail?
kuhlka : I plan to make a trip to TX this year to visit the school. If you wanna meet up and hang out while I'm down there, that'd be cool.
coolmite2001: It's all dangerous.Thats why I'm not really big on the stunts, cuz this ain't no video game. It's real as***** and we all cheat death everyday when we attach the speed demons between our legs and weave our ways to another ride.I like to go fast, really fast( when cars aren't out as much 3-5am weekdays and scream 150+thru the citys highways.
coolmite2001: I live just off the SMU campus, actually attended yrs ago
kuhlka : Oh sweet.
coolmite2001: how old r u?
kuhlka : I'll probably schedule a tour ahead of time and stay the night in a hotel or something. 24
kuhlka : just finishing up my two BAs.
kuhlka : I'm no squid though, lol.
coolmite2001: cool, right up ur alley, alot of pretty rich girls and bars - most of all wide extensive highways
kuhlka : Lol, I wish I were rich sometimes. I'm probably going to either have to take out a $35,000 loan from financial aid to attend or save up my pennies for a few years working full time.
coolmite2001: hey, i gotta go, but if u need any help I'm friends with several girls who are there on grants/scholarships and can get u some info.Email me: mailto:skooterz@comcast.net
kuhlka : will do, thanks for the info on the undertail
coolmite2001: no prob
coolmite2001: Ride Safe Dude
kuhlka : you too.

Did anyone actually read this entire thing?

I've got my walkthrough pics on the speed triple forum. I'll have it complete when I finish the project.

Who Fabricated this Undertail?

This is very interesting. Potentially, I'd like to replicate on my 04. Wondering how much of a pain in the butt it is to accomplish? I'm assuming that one would have to be very careful with ensuring the length of exhaust matches oem specs.

Is this as simple as mounting all the cbr exhaust gear (underseat exhuast, heat shield, etc) and then cutting pipe to length to fit the stock triumph header and midpipe into the cbr canister? Or are we talking major headache work? Also, I know that some later cbr exhausts have servo controlled butterflies in the pipes-I don't believe triumphs have anything similar. So would you remove the servo/butterfly piece?
