I rode the Super III to the hospital last night to see a friend that had a car pull out in front of him, totaling the bike, the car, and breaking both his wrists as well as his pelvis. All in all he is doing well. It could have been MUCH worse.
On the way to the hospital I pull into the entrence and a Firebird pulls in in front of me and begins to move into the right lane, I began to pull forward when he darts back across my lane to make a U-turn.
I go in to see Marty, and begin down the drive to get out on hwy24. I am in the left lane and there is a Miata beside me, and a van in front of him. As we are coming up to the light, the van decides they want to turn left as well and dart over into my lane narrowly missing my front tire. People just don't look. I could see them in thier rearview mirror. They simply didn't look. That's not all...
So I call Rochelle and let her know I'm on my way home. I had promissed Marty that I would go down the street where he wrecked and take a look at the scene. This particular road is very curvy and dark at night. I get to the end of this road, about to get on the highway when "pop" my headlights go out. I pull off to the side and get the flashlight out of my first aid kit, I turn it on and "pop" the light goes out in my flash light.
Finally, a gentleman stops and asks if I'm alright, and offers to let me work on my bike in his garage 1/2 mile up the curvy road. Have you ever followed someone in the dark having to use their head lights to see where you are going? It is a strange experience. As you run over bumps in the road, you would normally see them comming and your mind registers it and you ride over it without a second thought. In this situation, my mind could not prepare and it felt as though the tires were flat. it was strange.
Anyway, this guy offers to haul the bike home for me and we strap it into the back of his truck. Nice guy! He drives me and the Super III 25 miles home and wouldn't take a dime for it.
All ended well but it was a frustrating evening. I cracked open a Young's Double Chocolate Stout and decided to relax a bit. :-g I felt I deserved it.
