Angry Pissed off in Iowa, I could use some suggestions...

Last time I posted my Daytona broke down and I was looking for some advice:

http://www.triumphrat.net/daytona-de...-question.html

I was in the process of moving to Iowa City, which happened without a hitch. I took my bike up to a dealer up north (webers Cycles)a week later(9/1) so it could be fixed and they still have it (10/13).

They claim that its taken a long time for them to order a rectifier for the bike, a bad rectifier turned out to be the problem. When I was first quoted a price for the part about a month ago the rectifier was about 150, I talked to them on Thursday and they said the price of it had suddenly jumped up to 250 and hadn't finished my bike yet. Now with the value of the dollar down I understand maybe a $50 increase. But $100? Come on.

They originally told me the bike would be done over two weeks ago. Suffice it to say, its not, and Im getting frustrated. Is $250 a reasonable price for the rectifier? I looked online for one but couldn't find another place that sells them. I really would rather just driving the 90 miles up there, picking up my bike and driving another 50 miles to the next closest dealer.

List price for a regulator is $306 so $250 from dealer seems like a bargain - as far as OEM prices go. It's definitely been that price for at least 6 months.

I can't speak for their regulators but I used Ricks MotorSports Electrics for my Stator - great part & great service. Stator was almost 1/3 of the price of the OEM - was brand new & came complete with cables, connector & grommet. I'd be confident based on my stator experience with them that their regulators would be easily up to the task also.

Did you try bikebandit.com? They usually have Triumph stuff but it will take you another few weeks before you'd get the part. Good luck!

Hahaha De and I must have been typing at the same time!

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me if you had a written estimate that stated the rec. would cost $150, you could hold them to it. On the other hand, I wouldn't do business of any kind with a business that pulled that kind of crap.

+1...regardless of how much of a bargain they seem to be.

Nope, the key word is "estimate".

True, and Hinckley took the words out of my mouth.

There is another dealer, and the drive there tacks on another 15 minutes to my hour and a half drive. I can try my luck there next time.

In my state they're not allowed to exceed the 'estimate' by 10%. Of course, there is a time period attached to it also.

If it were my conundrum, I'd just go aftermarket.

The law is "cannot exceed the estimate by more than 10% WITHOUT NOTIFICATION"

an estimate is just that...any additional charges, the owner must be notified.
