Ground wire fix for 2001 955i

I have read in exisitng threads that there is a "ground wire" fix for poor running conditions. Has anyone tried this on a 2001? Did it work? Is it a viable fix for that year?

Thanks

Was intended or at least put out by Triumph for the newer Daytonas.

I just did it a week or 2 ago and while my bike is not running any better( it ran well already) it does turn over faster and ........ I used to get trouble light(MIL) whenever I ran my fuel down low(had the same issue with my sprint) due to the fuel sender going out of range, that has not happened in the 3 or 4 tanks of fuel since I added the ground wire.
Now I just need to get rid of those **** irridium plugs, i think the arc over voltage may be too high for our ignition systems.

Can you explain the ground wire fix. I would like to try it but am having trouble finding details. The more details the better as I have not tinkered much on 02.

Thumbs up

I wrote it in another post, but can't remember where so here is a short version. Run an extra wire, size your choice, I just used 10 gauge, from the negative battery terminal to the grounding block, which isn't really a block but the original grounding point from the factory, located under the seat on the block of the motor. Just follow the original ground from batt to where it ends and is screwed down. Then another wire from the same grounding block to the thermostadt housing on the upper left side of the motor. Just unscrew one of the thermo housing screws and attach second ground wire there retighten thermal housing screw and you are done. I was told it was a SUPPOSED fix for a rough running condition only and for the new generation bikes. The fix was a Triumph factory fix, but I didn't really notice anything except possibly a tad smoother running bike, but nothing significant. If you need a drawing I can emil you a crude sketch.

TT

silver,

Did you ever get any of the suggestions given checked out? an extra ground wire ain't gonna hurt anything, but probably won't help, your call.

Cruised up to the shop tonight..they are not concerned about the supposed noise I am hearing. Everything looks good on the tune. They are suggesting new plugs (6 year old bike with 2,000 miles, Never hurts) and possibly the throttle bodies need synched...Thanks for asking. I am going to wait till the riding season is over for that. The bike is running ok, just not perfect...if there is such a thing.

silver,

Good to hear it's ok. I didn't think you had a real problem without a performance issue, but better to get it checked and good luck getting it to run perfect. They are what they are....A pretty darn nice bike, with a pretty decent build quality, that really are pretty reliable for a really great price, enjoy it.

TT-

Still having that "sound" I think I got it nailed down.....It sounds like liquid hitting a hot surface and evaporating....Like water on a hot pipe. I am going to take it to the shop....Here is my theory...my bike is part of a recall on fuel connectors that "could crack and potentially leak onto the motor". I'd bet that is what the brief "hissing/puffing sound" that I am hearing....Anyone else out there have the problem with the fuel connectors.....I know most of the 01 Daytonas were affected.
