Undertail Exhuast

I want to upgrade to under tail exhaust, however I don't have $1000+ to spend on one. I'm thinking I can get someone without a mandrel bender (but the next best thing), to bend me some pipe and buy a under tail muffler. Is there anything intrinsically wrong with that. I can build the mounts myself and fab all the other brackets. I'm i going to be downtuning my bike?

Go for it

I say if you think you've got the know-how and the tools, then do it. Undertail exhausts aren't about making more power anyway. They're about cleaning up the area around the SSSA and making the bike sound meaner. If you don't have access to a mandrel bender, then bend up some regular pipe, test fit it and then take it somewhere to have it mandrel bent up in some nice stainless. If you go for it make sure you take lots of pics and keep us informed. Good Luck.

Actually underseat exhausts - well ours anyway - give A LOT more power - 14 bhp to be exact - but if you use compression bent tube it narrows on the bends and you will loose power - it is an exact science getting these right - our pipe as I said makes 14 bhp gain whilst the old Black Widdow pipe used to loose 6 bhp - it's very easy to get wrong ...

not to mention that you need to replace the area underneath the seats with something that will take all the heat. I'd say that you're better off just buying an underseat system unless you have a fair amount of experience in engineering.

Check out my site www.frenchgeek.com to see what's involved in replacing a regular pipe with a wolf underseat system.
