Help! Bike won't start
I'm riding home from work, and after 20miles the bike stutters, loses power and dies. It's a 2005 Daytona with 11k miles. The fuel pump primes and it will turn over but won't start. Oil was changed 2.5k ago. It still has plenty of oil and water, but the oil/water light is on. I'll pull the code tomorrow when it's light.
Any ideas??

sagaris, Here's a shotgun diagnostic...
-Die shortly after filling the tank (bad gas)
-I've read about the fuel pump hose coming undone. Look for bubbles in the tank when the fuel pump is priming
-Oil lamp will stay lit 'till engine starts as may the MIL
-Tho' it doesn't sound like it, double check the battery cables
Good Luck, Brad

Might also check for a blown fuse. I had the same thing happen riding down the road. Speedo went dead though as the bike stammered and sputtered, then died. Still had the instrument lights. Blew main 30A fuse.

Thanks guys. Fuses are all good and the battery connections are tight. I even threw the battery on a tender, and it holds a decent charge. Tuneboy isn't even showing any codes. I'll try until the weekend, then it goes into the shop under warranty.
Thanks again.

I simple check to get it out of the way, but what about the kick stand sensor switch. Or possibly the neutral sensor. Green light come on when in neutral?

Has the tank been off recently? I had a fuel line pop off the injector rail while riding & tunboy showed no codes. Check kill switch, clutch switch, & stand switch. There is also a netural switch but if the indicator light works as you move it in & out of neutral it's OK.

The tank has been off, but the lines are tight to the injector rails. The stand, neutral and kill switches all work. I'm at wits end, and may just take it to the dealer. Thanks all.

I dunno if you took it to the dealer yet but when I take off my gas tank and put it back on it is really picky about how you hook the lines back up. Ofcourse they need to be in the correct place but a lot of the times those lines will kink when you put the tank on. Of course you can't see the lines with the tank on because of the frame but pull it off and check the lines and pay close attention to the lines and see if they are flowing ok. Just the smallest kink will not allow it to start.

Make sure the self sealing connectors to the tank are pushed fully home and locked. Once upon a time I knocked the release clip while cleaning the bike and the conector popped out enough to seal the connector but still looked like it was in. It took me some time and a lot of cusswords before I found it.

I always keep a can of Aerostart in the garage for times like these. Ignition on, spray Aerostart into the airbox intake and fire her up. If it fires, it's fuel problems.
