Talking New member to my fleet

Just picked up an 03 Daytona 955i from a co-worker yesterday. I'm used to riding a yamaha R6, so this is quite something else. The best thing I fould is how smooth the throttle is and powering thru turns. The bike needs work as the paint is hiding damage from an accident and the speedo is broke (reading max speed of 3mph). This is going to be a great street bike, but I might get extra plastics for the track. I do track my R6.

I posted these same pictures in the pics thread already.

makton3g, If the speedo sometimes reads correctly, or switching off and restarting gets it working again it's a speedo diagnostic that needs to be disabled. Otherwise is a screwed sensor on the left side of the front wheel (usually when a front wheel is remounted).

Talking Congrats on the bike!

The 955 is ssssssssssssswwwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeettttttttt tttt on the track! I had a lot of fun with it, especially with it's low end torque. It's also fun passing the little 600's on the straights!

If mine wasn't a new 06 it would be on the track! I (meaning the wife) can't see putting $10k into a trackbike. Have fun!

Mike

Thanks, I'll have a look at this this weekend and see whats up.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I have plans for this machine and hope to push it to the limits. I just can't believe my co-worker was riding this thing the the condition it was in. The steering head was WAY loose and it really had no brake or clutch. Fixed all that the day I got it.

Nice pair of bikes! You're gonna LUUUUV that Daytona; I've had mine for a month, and I still get chills when I spot it in the parking lot at work. I park it where I'll be able to see it most.

I thought Yamaha's were known for their smooth injection and throttle response. Is the R6 really significantly less smooth? I used to have a YZF600R (carbureted, so it's not really a worthwhile comparison, but...) and it's throttle response was smooth as glass.

My R6 is a 2000 and is carbed. The thing is, the bike is light, nimble, and partly modified. Working the throttle needs to be done with care. The tona's throttle is a tad stiff and thus allows a smoother transaction.

Good example, on the 6, I shift half way thru my left hand turns or wind out first gear. With the tona, I can stay in first and smooth the throttle thru the turn and hit second when I'm done. I just love that.
