New tires

I've worn out the BT010s on the 1200 this summer. They were on the bike when I bought it used with 20K on the clock. I'm considering either the Continental Road Attacks or the Avon Storm-STs as replacements. Anyone have experience with either of these or strong opinions about other tires? I ride the bike fast and relatively hard but no track time. Mostly sport touring and long commuting.

Most people that try the storms like them, but I hated them. Great grip, but I didn't even get 5K out of them, plus they had horrible wear as in front wheel wobble worse as they got more miles on them and the rear I won't even comment on, but again most like them. Conti's haven't tried yet, am going for michelins this next go and am just coming off metzlers. Ahhh the choices.

Hey Guys,
Mushman, I'm glad you posted. I just finished off my BT010s and am looking at the Michelin Pilot Sport or the Pirelli Diablo Stradas. But like TT posted there are too many choices. I was also looking real hard at the Dunlop Qualifiers. Would love for someone with more experience to put there $.02 in. - Web

mushman, I grew to really admire the Metzler Z6 that arrived with the RC51. While not a track or even a pure sport tire they held true and fast when those 'little incidents' presented themselves. Wet weather behavior was admirable also.

The Dunlop D220 ST and Michelin Pilot Road have had good reviews.

Brad

PS FWIW, I just had some Pirelli Corsas mounted on the '04.

edit:PPS The RC currently has a Dunlop SportQualifier rear...seems pretty good and there's a full set waiting in the wings.

Okay, so that's one semi-negative on the Avons and more of everything else thrown into the mix. Like we all say, 'Too Many Choices!"
I think the Corsa3s would be too soft for my riding, ditto for the 2cts. A 1000RR forum thread has the 2cts flattening out the center pretty early from freeway riding. (subject to MORE debate)
I like the Z6 option too. Also Diablo Stradas.
Let's all agree to buy a different set up on the same bikes, ride the same way under the same conditions, then compare notes. That's easy ain't it?
Who's got a checkbook handy?

Too many choices, but ultimately that's a good thing.

I used Avon Azaros on my D1200. They seemed to suit the bike. I've heard complaints but mainly from 955 riders. I think the Avons work ok with the D1200 as its a heavier bike.

I'm sold on Michelin Pilot Roads as my choice at this time. Nice feel, nice even wear, longer life than I'm used to, and very predictable. I haven't tried the new 2 compound design yet, but from what I've read it should be just as good & possibly even better.

I just finished off the Z6's on my 955i. Lasted 15,000 kms somehow ? Great tire, zero complaints. Now I'm waiting to try the Pilot Road 2's when they come out. Yes, I said come out. Over here they aren't for sale until the end of the month. Looks like my bike is sitting until early October.

I have a couple thousand kms on a new set of Diablo Corsa's and I've nothing bad to say about them. I haven't done a track day and they're my first set of tires on the bike so I can't say much more.

They don't grip grooves or lips in pavement in my experience.
