2006 Daytona 955i - not running right...
I bought a Leo Vince high mount a couple months ago and per Leo you can disconnect the battery for a few minutes and you won't need to enter a new tune. I tried this, but it was running rich and had a bad hesitation. I took into a local Triumph dealer and they changed the tune to after market exhaust. The mechanic also mentioned that he had to block the secondary air intake "to get the numbers within the proper range". I took it out on a test ride and it still had a slight miss or jerk. I mentioned it and he took it out for a spin. He came back and said it is the steps in the fuel injection, and that I was probably in between the fuel injection step for that gear and rpm. I took his word and drove the bike home, 35 miles. Well the miss/jerk has gotten worse over time and the bike ran a lot better without the pipe! The bike back fires whenever I chop the trottle, it stalls if I give it to much gas to quickly and it takes 3 or 4 times to get the thing to start. I just bought the bike in Feb. and have about 3000 miles on it so I would think it should be running better.

Am I expecting to much from this Triumph? Anyone else had these issues or have any tips for me? I love this bike, but don't know how much longer I can take this.

Current Issues:
- Backfires when throttle is disengaged
- Stalls if given gas quickly
- Stalls 3-4 times before it will idle (cold)
- Clutch is progressively getting louder when released (I can hear the clutch over my exhaust!)
- Up shift to 2nd is rough and very loud

I've got an 04' with the Leo Vince Titanium highmount, power commander, and a K&N air filter. I was having speedo issues and took it to the shop to have a different tune put in to solve problem. Got it back and it had the symptoms you described. Took it back and they try to load different tunes but told me that the power commander was fighting with the stock ECU. Reprogrammed stock map and bike ran fine. Don't know it this helps but love the Leo Vince. Good luck - Web

Thanks! I'm probably going to take it back to the dealer have them try that.

If that doesn't work I'll consider the tuneboy option. I just got into racing and didn't want to spend that kind of money on my brand new motorcycle!

Would the Tuneboy cost about $400 - $500 for everything?

Check out the "another problem" thread started by triumph times.I detailed the issues I had with my new '06 955i in that thread. Basically everything you're dealing with, except the clutch issues. My bike is supposed to be fixed as a result of the addition of a ground cable or cables but I don't know all the details yet. I won't be home to pick up my bike 'till tomorrow afternoon, but my Triumph mechanic assures me it's good to go. I'll post info. after I get it home. BTW I have a Yoshimura slip-on and the Triumph off-road tune. I had the same issues before adding the pipe and changing the tune.

Still looking for answers

Well I did the extra ground wire last night running from the thremo housing to ground block and here are the results.

Morning
Cold start - 2 tries and it idled, usually takes 3 (I was hopeful)
Opened up a little on 83 south and it felt pretty good, don't know if it was running better or it was just me hoping it was.
Very little popping on decel.

Lunch
3 cranks and it idles (not looking so good)
little popping still

Evening Commute
3 cranks
lots of popping
dead spot in every gear around 5k rpms

So I'm still looking for answers. I'll probably take the bike back to the dealer and have them troubleshoot it since my season will be ending on Sept 18.... Going in for foot surgery.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

Mike

Sounds like your bike has pretty much the same issues mine has. Mine does start easier since the ground wire was installed, but I now it's still not right. It still won't take any throttle when cold until it's run for a few minutes, and then still produces fuel smoke when revving it moderately high. I don't care what Triumph or anyone else says; that's unacceptable for any modern electronically controlled engine, motorcycle or otherwise. Tomorrow I'm going riding for the first time since early Aug. and am gonna wring the thing out. Then when I get home I'm going to test the fuel pump pressure with a gauge attached to the pump outlet pipe. If the pressure is less than 40 psi (should be approx. 45 or 3 bar) I'm going to harrass my dealer to get me a new one. It sounds like a new pump cured a lot of ills for Brooksie's bike.
